Emma's P.O.V
Everything was fine until that monster showed up.
Honestly, it had been the weirdest day of my life. It all started when my cousin Percy showed up with his new girlfriend, Annabeth. She was an average height girl with tanned skin and blonde hair. What I imagined a typical Californian girl would look like. Percy, on the other hand, had changed since I last saw him. He had shot up, the green in his eyes were more noticeable, his hair was messy, but in a way where it looked styled, and he had developed a bit of a tan. Hey, it was a cool look for him. As soon as he walked through my front door, we did our usual re-enactment of a scene from Full House.
"Let me at him!" I yelled, even though my mum was the only one in the way.
"Short stuff!" He yelled enthusiastically, with his arms wide open.
"Big guy!" I yelled as I ran to hug him. We hugged for, like, 5 minutes, but let's be honest, we hadn't seen each other for ages.
"No, no Percy. It's ok. I'll just get all the bags myself." Aunt Sally rolled her eyes as she walked through the front door, carrying 5 bags with her.
"Cool, thanks, Mom!" Percy said while giving me a devilish grin.
"Percy!" Aunt Sally complained.
"Alright, alright, I'll come!" Percy started walking out, but he obviously remembered that he had a girlfriend waiting to be introduced.
"Oh, yeah, um Annabeth? This is Emma, Emma? This is Annabeth" we shook hands. Then, he ran out to help Aunt Sally. I then noticed Annabeth's stormy grey eyes.
"Your eyes are really pretty!" I blurt out. I feel my face going red.
She just laughs, "Thanks, I like your hair"
I touch my hair. I got the ends dyed last summer, but I was already sick of it. Especially since the biggest bully in the school, Samantha, said I dyed it just to look good. God, I just wanted to mess her face more than it already was.
"Thanks" I reply half-heartedly. We stand in awkward silence for a few seconds, but we're saved by the Percy.
He busts through the door, carrying the luggage, "Oh my gods! These things are so dam heavy!" Wait a minute... gods? What was this kid on about? Isn't it 'oh my god'? I had studied Greek Mythology in school, but it couldn't be! They were only myths... or were they? I had to see for myself.
"Ummm, Percy? What do you mean by.. gods?" Percy, Annabeth, and Aunt Sally's eyes widened. My mum had a look I'd never seen before. a worried look. Despite her expression, she was the first to speak.
"Er, Emma, darling-" uh oh, she never calls me darling unless something's wrong... "how about you make some snacks for yourself and sit down, we need to talk..."—————————————————————————————————————————
Percy's P.O.V
I seriously did not mean to say gods. Especially in front of Emma.
Let me explain. You know how I'm a demigod? Well, as you would've figured by now, Emma's one too. A gods dam powerful one too. Haha, sorry. Inside joke. But the truth is, we don't know who her parents are. We don't even know if it was a god or a goddess! Like I've said, usually, I would back up and explain what the heck was going on. One problem: I didn't know what the heck was going on. All we knew was that Emma wouldn't always be safe. A few days before she was born, we were visiting my Aunt Evelyn. We were sitting in the, what do the Aussies call it? "Living room" when all of a sudden, a golden mist appeared in front of the TV. A distorted voice spoke from the mist.
"Hello Sally and Evelyn Jackson, hello Percy Jackson, King of the Sea. It is so very nice to else you again. I have a special request you are unable to decline. I am an Olympian, yes the god Olympian, and I have a child due, but I'm too ashamed to admit it. That's why I place my trust in you, Evelyn Jackson, to raise the child like a princess, no... a queen! No... a goddess. Yes, like a goddess. I shall not reveal my identity, but do know I am always watching over my daughter." And just like that, my Aunt's stomach began to grow, like, uncontrollably. A few days later, on December 21, little Emma was born. We had always looked out for her, hoping monsters wouldn't attack. Like, yeah her house had the same protection as Camp Half-Blood, but even camp got attacked. And with me there, it was even more dangerous, so we stopped visiting every year. Then I saved the world 3 years later, I lost my memory, fell into Tartarus, blah blah blah. Yes, it seems like I find it no big deal, but all those life-threatening situations made me realise that a demigod like my cousin could die at any second. So that's why whenever we fly down to Australia to visit her, I cherish every moment because you never know when it's your last.
"Er, Emma, darling. How about you make some snacks for yourself and sit down, we need to talk..." a voice broke my nostalgia. It was my Aunt. To be honest, my Aunt Evelyn was a very pretty woman. She had long, luscious dark brown hair, big blue eyes, perfect lips that could form a smile to die for, and pretty much a skinny body, but in a healthy way. (A/N I'm a girl so I was pretty much describing a natural-er version of what I would see in Aphrodite, don't come after me, I'm not a perv) But now, she looked worried, with creases forming in her forehead. This was a sight nobody would see again, so I pulled out my special phone and snapped a picture. Usually, demigods couldn't use a phone, because it was like getting a giant neon sign that says, "Hey monsters, look at me! I'm here for you to eat!" In order to fix that, my friend Leo had made us some special phones so we could text and call without holding up a neon sign for monsters.
"Percy! What are you doing!" My mom snatched my phone and put it in her pocket.
"Mom, seriously?" My mom just gave me one of her looks. "Fine. I'm sorry" I sighed. My mom rolled her eyes as she gave me my phone.
Aunt Evelyn walked into the kitchen, and my mom, Annabeth and I followed. Emma was sitting at the.. bench? Is that what Aussies call them? I honestly had no idea, being an American in Australia, I looked tan back home, but really pale here. Emma and Aunt Evelyn on the other hand looked really tanned, Emma had grown a lot taller than last time I'd seen her. She'd also dyed the ends of her hair. She looked so different if she didn't yell "Let me at him!" I wouldn't have recognised her. She usually had 1 of her 3 expressions on her face: a bright smile, an annoyed look, or a resting b face. But now, she had a whole new face, it looked like she was worried. Aunt Evelyn decided to start the conversation that would change Emma's life forever, "Emma, remember when you were in Year 5? When I 'accidentally' wrote down Greek Mythology as an extra subject?" Aunt Evelyn spoke in a calm tone, but it had a bit of an Aussie accent to it. I guess living down under can change your voice.
"Ummm, yeah?" Emma's voice shook. I felt so bad, she was 13, the typical age when you get claimed, and she was only learning what a demigod was now.
"So, do you remember what happens when a god has a child with a human?" It was my mom's turn to talk.
"Uh, I think so... it was a... er.... demigod?"
"Yes, good. Now, do you remember anything else about demigods?"
"Uh, no not really. We didn't really cover demigods. I'm sorry."
"No, no! Don't be sorry, honey. I told them to cover demigods, but they didn't listen! Those bit-"
"Uh, yeah, um, they should've covered that" my mom cut off my aunt before any swearing was done not under her breath.
"Wait- so does that mean..." Emma's eyes looked at me and Annabeth. I nodded.
"My dad was Poseidon"
"The god of the sea" Emma nods
"And my mom was Athena" Annabeth smiles
Emma smiles back, "the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy"
I walked around the room (because of my ADHD) and I had a look around. I came across some of Emma's report cards. Not that I ever doubted my little cousin, but she was really dam smart for a 13-year-old. She had straight A's, (I am dyslexic, but I've gotten better at reading, and A was the only letter on the page, not hard to read) and she had a lot of roles in the school. Student Representative Council (SRC), House Captain, Library Helper, etc. Wow.
"She's really smart" Annabeth comes over, and put a hand on my shoulder, "as a daughter of Athena, I'm impressed"
"Uhh, I think I need to go lie down and process all of this" and with that, she ran out. I looked at my mom and aunt, they looked worried. Then I looked at Annabeth, who motioned for me to go after Emma. I followed her to the archery range. (A/N Tbh I really don't know what it's called, so I'm guessing. Don't come at me, archers!)—————————————————————————
Emma's P.O.V
"Been a bad girl, I know I am. And I'm so hot, I need a fan. I don't want no boy, I need a man..."
I pumped my BLACKPINK songs in my headphones and picked up my bow and arrow. I know what your thinking, "Don't do that! It's dangerous! You could kill someone!" I know it's dangerous, but at this point of life, I really couldn't care less. I shot an arrow. (A/N you know what I mean) Bullseye. Yippy-kay-yay. I'm honestly so sick of hitting the target every time. I know, sounds weird, but hitting the target just attracted attention. Randoms congratulating me, old people offering me scholarships to their "archery schools", and (ugh) boys asking for my number. They keep trying, but they're never gonna get it. Most of the conversations go like this:
"Hey girl, I've seem to have lost my number, can I have yours?"
"Sure. 987 654 321"
"Uh, that's not a phone num-"
"I know. It's actually the number of kilometres I want you to stay away from me"
"I-" *runs away*
I'm so sick of it. Yes, I'm single, and no, I don't want your number. It's the same every time. I wish they would just fu-
"Hey, Em....... Uh oh" Percy walked in, wearing a smile on his face, but that didn't really take long to wipe off. I turned around to see a giant monster looking silhouette sprinting towards me. It didn't look too close, but I could tell it was quite fast.
"Emma! Run inside and tell Annabeth to call Nico! Nico Di Angelo!" Percy uncapped his pen, revealing a bronze sword. Celestial bronze. I learnt about it in Greek Mythology class, but I didn't know it was real!
I sprinted inside, up the stairs, and around the corner into the kitchen. The three ladies were drinking tea and laughing. As soon as they saw me, their faces fell
"Annabeth... Call... Di Angelo... Nico..." I was out of breath and could barely talk, but Annabeth understood. She pulled out her phone and went to the living room.
"Emma, what's wrong?" My mum looked really worried
"There was a monster, running towards me... Percy came just in time.... pen turned into a sword..." I was still trying to catch my breath. My mum and Aunt Sally looked at each other. Straight away, they ran and turned all the lights off, closed the blinds, and did everything they could to make it as dark as possible.
"Umm, mum, Aunt Sally... what the heck are you doing?"
"He can't stand it when it's bright," my auntie said from somewhere. Suddenly, I heard a sound I can't explain, and a cold hand grasp my shoulder.Ahaha sorry abt the long chapter... 2083 words! I'm sorry it was really bad and had no drama or anything but I promise there will be some in the next chapter 😃
Bye-bye dudes
