Being baptized washes away all sins. It symbolizes death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The word Baptized comes from Baptizo meaning to immerse. Jesus was baptized and he commanded everyone to be baptized. It is important to know that being baptized doesn't save you, Jesus does. But since Jesus commanded it, it is important to obey him. It gives Christians a new start and represents death of the old sinner. If you are unable to be baptized, God understands your circumstance, like the thief on the cross. If you refuse to be baptized however, this is a sin.
