Life was boring and mundane for the most part. I worked a fast pace job as a cook in a fancy restaurant and did bartending most nights to make ends meet. I was closing up shop at the bar when three drunks busted in the door before I could lock it.

"Hey baby, why don't ya fetch us each a beer?" one man slurred as he tried to wrap his arm around my shoulders.

I stepped back away from his grasp and kept my composure, "I'm sorry, we're closed, you need to leave."

"We? looks like you're all alone," another man said stepping closer.

"Doesn't matter, the bar is closed, you need to leave," I said more firmly. I wasn't scared. I could handle myself that's why I didn't mind the bad neighborhood.

"I don't think so," the first man said grabbing my upper arm and pulling me towards him so his other arm wrapped around my waist.

"I'm warning you, let me go!" I demanded. His grip tightened.

"The lady said to release her," a man boomed from behind the drunks.

We all turned to see a tall blond man and a raven-haired man. I recognized them as the Asgardian gods from the avengers. What they were doing in this neck of the woods was beyond me.

"Shit-" the men grumbled under their breath.

"Unhand the lady," Loki said reiterating what his brother had told the men.

"You take her then," the man that held onto me said shoving me straight into Loki's chest. I didn't have time to catch myself so I fell right into him. He caught me though as the men ran off.

"Are you alright miss?" Thor asked as I straightened up quickly.

"Yes, I was fine but thank you," I said as I finally got the door locked and was ready to head home.

"Pardon me but from the looks of it, you were in trouble," Loki chuckled. Hm, I Iiked the sound of that.

"Don't underestimate me," I glared. "What are the two of you doing around here anyway?" I asked as I started to make my way home. The two of them followed.

"We got an anonymous tip on some weird activity around this part. We're just following up," Thor said swinging his hammer casually.

"Brother, we are supposed to be discreet," Loki reminded him.

"Nonsense, we've been scouting for weeks and found very little. We might as well ask around."

"About what?" I asked curiously now.

"A mysterious shield appeared around a woman being attacked and then it pushed away the attackers and exploded on them," Thor explained. "Amongst other strange events similar to that."

"Oh..." I said not knowing what else to say. I wouldn't say it was me that did that.  I wasn't sure what their intentions were at this point. Punishment or praise. "Why do you guys care if it was for good?"

Loki looked at me suspiciously but Thor continued, "We want to make sure they're fully good and won't cause us trouble."

"Ah, well, I'm sorry, I don't know anything. Thank you again, bye," I said walking away.

"Hey!" Loki yelled getting my attention.

I turned around just in time to see a knife flying at me. My natural reaction was to use my shield to block it from lodging into my chest.

"Loki! What did you do that for?" Thor yelled. "What if she couldn't have blocked that?"

"I had a hunch," he shrugged.
