I was dragged to the training grounds where Loki eagerly squared up with me. I still had his book in my hands.
"I've never actually fought before," I said a bit nervous.
"How'd you do it on the streets?" Tony asked as he and the others sat down.
"Sneak attack," I said simply.
"Time to learn," Loki smirked summoning his knives.
"Go easy on her brother, it's her first time," Thor warned.
"All the more fun," Loki said with a smug look on his face.
"Well, you going to do anything? Or shall I just read your book myself?" I taunted.
"It's above your intellect, you wouldn't understand it," he chuckled as he threw some knives that I deflected easily.
"Then why are you reading it?" I shot back.
"Ah, well I am the smarter one of the two of us," he purred in my ear causing my smile to vanish. I hadn't noticed he got behind me. I twirled around just as Loki was about to put a knife to my throat. I grabbed his forearm that held the knife and twisted it until I grabbed his elbow and threw him away from me. He flipped and righted himself so he landed on his feet.
"Nice try."
"For someone who hasn't fought before that wasn't too bad."
"Is that a compliment I hear from the notorious Loki?" I said blinking my eyes at him sweetly.
"Don't get used to it, runt."
"Whatever you say," I laughed.
Our banter went back and forth for a while as he tried to get the book away from me. My only saving grace were my shields. I could expand or collapse them at will and use them to force people away from me or deflect attacks. Over some time I grew tired and somewhat faint but I didn't let it show.
"Runt, how bout we call it? You're slowing down," Loki said as he stopped but twirled his knife in his hand.
"I don't know what you're talking about," I said refusing to show weakness.
"You two have been at it for over an hour," Tony said from the chairs. The others nodded their heads. "It's time for dinner."
"Oh fine," I said giving up willingly.
"Good, now give me back my book," Loki said walking up to me.
"Not so fast," I said hiding it behind my back. He towered over me causing my heart to pound.
"I could just take it."
"You've already tried that."
"I was going easy on you," he chuckled.
"You said that'd be no fun," I teased back.
"I decided I didn't want to get on the team's bad side again is all," he shrugged as he continued to look down at me. He was a full foot taller then I was.
"Flirt some other time or get a room," Tony complained, "Come on, I'm hungry."
"I wouldn't flirt with a Midgardian runt," Loki said looking up in Tony's direction.
That struck a nerve and I swept his feet out from under him in an instant with my foot. He landed hard on his back as I spat at him. "Eat shit Asgardian garbage." with that I stormed away to my room with Loki's book still in my hand. Everyone was stunned but let me go.
I locked my door, threw the book on my bed, and sighed heavily. I don't know what had come over me but I knew the god of mischief would have it out for me for sure now. I decided not to think about it too much so I went into the bathroom, stripped, and got into a cool shower. I spent a good hour in the bathroom. When I was finished I turned off the water and dried off slowly. I looked at the clothes and grumbled but I had nothing else to wear.
