The room was darker than usual when Celeste opened her eyes.
Usually, light, whether it was the moon or sun; streetlamp or passing car headlights; the girl's room was always illuminated just enough for her to see her surroundings.
But it was dark.
Alongside the darkness was also silence.
Not one cricket or car, nor the usual noises of her family's nightly shenanigans.
Nothing but silence.
There she laid, on her back, in the bed quietly. Confused as to why such changes (though small) have taken place.
Then she noticed the sheets of the bed. Her hands moved across their surface as she felt them. Her pulse quickening as realization set in.
These were not her sheets.
These sheets, unlike hers, were silk. The pillow beneath her head soft and plush. Her pink curls sprawled across its surface.
Suddenly, there was light.
She swiftly turned her head in its direction but slowly sat up.
The corner in which the light came from seemed far. Several meters away. She squinted hard at the tiny blur. Her first instinct was to grab her glasses off her dresser, but as she did her hand came in contact with nothing but air. Her glasses and dresser were gone.
Puzzled, she swung her feet to the side and slowly came off the bed. Her feet, now bare, didn't feel her usual hardwood floor, but grass. At her touch, the ground glowed a bright pink right beneath her feet. Celeste jumped in shock. As she jumped, her two footprints disappeared as quickly as they lit up.
"No fucking way.."
Then she walked, and as she did, the silence she heard was broken by the patter of her feet in the grass as she stepped on twigs and leaves. She watched behind her as her footprints disappeared in the grass.
"Oh, this is too cool. I feel like Michael Jackson!" She whispered to herself, dancing around in the grass.
Celeste came to a stop with her dancing and noticed her change in attire.
A diaphanous white robe was the only thing that covered her body. The robe hung loosely on her shoulders and was tied together with a string of pink lace at her waist. The robe touched the floor and trailed behind her as she walked.
"What am I wearing.." Celeste said aloud, crossing her arms to cover her chest, though no one was there.
Or so she thought.
She resumed walking as she picked up the more sounds of the night. First, it was the crickets, then came the slight wind; next was softly rushing water.
The closer she got to the corner, the more she became engulfed in the night. The previous light she followed has now been replaced with moonlight that shined down dimly on her making her robe glitter in the light, and her destination, allowing for Celeste to see only some of the new environment she had discovered.
Glancing around, the girl saw she was in a forest. At her feet an assortment of moss-covered rocks, jewel-toned flowers, pieces of twigs and various other unknown but beautiful plants scattered around thick roots of a tree emerging from the grass.
The girl kneeled down, reaching for one of the flowers.
At her touch, the flower brightened. As if it was glowing, just like the grass. This caused the girl to pull back, clutching her hand to her chest.
