The next morning I was sitting on the couch next to Avia in the living room when I heard a knock on the door. When my mom ran to answer it, there were two police officers standing before her.
Mom talked to them for a while before turning yo face Avia with an angry look.
"These officers told me you attacked three kids, and it wasn't a regular ol' fist fight, they were stabbed! Is that true, Avia?"
Avia looked to the floor showing it was true and nodded, "Yes, Mom, it's true. But they were the ones that pulled knives on me and Emmaline, I was defending myself!"
"Miss Avia." One officer said looking toward her. "We found three kids, one was knocked out, one had a broken wrist, and the other was stabbed in the left arm. All of the girls were covered in bruises. They were punched in the face and one was hit in the gut. We also have a few witnesses telling you fled the scene."
"Witnesses? But there was no one else around, officer." Avia said with kind of a shock to her voice.I stand up and face the officers. "Officers, it wasn't Avia who hurt those girls, it was me." I rolled up my sleeves to show bruises, which were fake ones I drew myself with makeup...I wasn't going to let my sister who saved me from getting hurt go to jail.
Both officers turn to each other and nod. "Well, I'm sorry, but this looks like a long time in juvenile young lady." he says putting handcuffs around my wrists.
"No! Em' what are you doing! Tell them it was me, Em'! Tell them it was me!"
I turn looking back at my sister, who had fear in her brown eyes, then I said to her , "You don't need to take the blame for my poor actions, dear sister. Goodbye for now, Avia."
One officer touched my shoulders leading me out of the house."Em'! Tell them I did it! Em'!" Avia cried out to me with a tear running down her face.
"Avia, there's no need to lie. You don't need to protect me anymore. I'm getting what I deserve."
The officers led me to their police car and put me inside. Just like that, I saw Avia through the window helplessly watching us drive away.

AVIA POV
About an hour later I saw my Dad pull in the driveway. When he approached the front door I went and held it open for him. He immediately looked down at me. He saw my face wet from tears and instantly knew something was wrong.
After he came inside and sat down, Mom explained everything to him.
I ran outside , it was pouring rain . I couldn't stop crying thinking about how my little sister was going to jail for my goddamn actions. She's thirteen...she's going to grow up in juvy for a mistake I made. This is all my fault.
After about ten minutes, Mom opened the door and held out her hand to help me up , "Avia , come inside , honey, you're going up catch a cold in this weather!"
I grabbed her hand as she pulled me up and we walked inside.
I can't imagine what they think of Em' now. She's no harm like I am. She's my little sister. She doesn't deserve to live with the shit consequences for what I did. I wanted to confess , but I already tried, I knew nobody would believe me.
—
"Kids! Dinner!" , I hear Mom call from the kitchen. I didn't even feel like moving. All I could think about was Em' suffering...because of me. I hear my siblings run across the hall but I just stay in my bed looking at my ceiling, drowning in my thoughts.
Then there was a knock at my door, it was Dad.
"Hey, sweetie, may I come in?"
"Sure, Dad."
"I know you're sad about your sister going to juvy but this is for her own good, she'll learn."
"Yeah...she will..."
"Things will get better and you'll see Emmaline again someday."
"...Someday..."
"Well, come down we're having tacos for dinner! Your favorite!" he says playfully poking my back.
"Okay , Dad. I'll be down in a sec."
—
I couldn't eat with Em' still on my mind. That poor girl, I hope she's okay.
"Avia. Aren't you going to eat your dinner? I made tacos because I know you're sad about your sister and I thought making your favorite dinner would cheer you up a little."
"I thought so too but it's not working. May I be excused, Mom?"
Mom nods and I head back up to my room and go to sleep...I needed to get my sister off my mind for a while.
