Chapter One

Getting a part-time job was supposed to be enjoyable. It wasn't supposed to be nerve wracking. I'm was pretty sure that it wasn't supposed to make me want to rip out my hair. It definitely wasn't supposed to be something to gripe about while watching crime shows, was it?

"Angie..." a very impatient sounding voice broke through my rants. I paused, tearing my eyes away from my instant noodles to look at the very serious boy sitting on the floor in front of me. I lowered my bowl, scowling questioningly at him.

"We're trying to watch our show," continued the boy, Austin, airily, gesturing to his near identical twin sitting beside him. Both boys stared at me. It was unnerving.

I huffed and set my bowl on the coffee table, next to my laptop. "Fine, I'll just keep my problems to myself."

"Thank you," grinned the other twin, Gareth.

I pouted and crossed my arms, slumping back on the couch. Yawning, I curled my legs underneath myself and flicked my eyes disinterestedly to the flashing screen in front of us. The twins shifted slightly, leaning closer to the screen. I snorted. I could imagine their intense stares as the police began to deduce who the criminal was.

"I honestly don't understand how you two can watch this," I said eventually, leaning forward despite myself.

"It's interesting," replied the twins in unison.

"It's freaky," I responded automatically, sliding off the couch and shuffling closer to the laptop. The twins wordlessly parted for me. I squeezed myself in between them and propped my face on my hands, watching.

Hours trickled by. One episode became two and three and five. I was vaguely aware of our parents entering the house and bustling about clumsily before leaving hurriedly again.

Sometime during the fifth episode, I fell asleep.

A screeching alarm clock proved to be a very rude awakening.

I yelped and jerked back, smacking the offensive object away from my face. I sat up, blinking rapidly. I looked around. I was definitely on the couch, covered with a blanket. Suspiciously, I looked over at the squawking alarm clock. Tilting my head curiously to the side, I wondered how that got out of my room.

"Morning Sleeping Beauty," a twin's voice drew my attention over to the other end of the couch.

Both of them were standing there, broad grins on their faces. I had half a mind to pull the blanket over my head and go back to sleep.

"What do you two want?" I asked sleepily instead.

"Nothing," Austin said breezily.

Something about his tone alerted me to the fact that something was most definitely wrong. I struggled out of the blanket nest I had somehow created for myself. Shaking off the warmth, I crossed my arms and tried to glare at the twins, effectively failing. They both gazed boredly at me.
