Chapter Two
The turtles stared disbelievingly at me. They seemed to be asking me why I was looking at them in such surprise. One turtle looked tempted to roll its eyes before it retracted its head.
I slowly turned my doubtful stare towards the blue haired boy. He turned away from me, moving closer to the turtles. He looked highly annoyed as he pressed closer to the glass. He breathed onto the glass, squinting at the turtles.
"Sir?" I finally regained my ability to speak. The boy turned to me, a confused frown flitting across his features.
"Sir?" he repeated.
"You need to leave. The aquarium's closed now..." I paused and hastily added, "You can come back tomorrow."
The boy made a disappointed noise and moved back. It was then that I realized he wasn't wearing any shoes. I stared. He stared. The turtles stared. Everyone just stared at one another for several moments before I let out a tiny gasp.
"Aren't you freezing?" I asked.
"No," the boy shook his head.
"Right..." I trailed off uneasily. I cleared my throat once more and nodded at the boy.
"C'mon," I said finally. The boy looked over at me.
"Where?" he asked.
"Out of the aquarium, then you can go home," I stepped forward and gingerly took hold of the boy's arm. Instantly I snapped my hand back, gasping in surprise.
"You're freezing!" I exclaimed.
The boy looked at me as if not having a body temperature of below 0 degrees was outlandish.
I stuck my hands into my pockets and eyed the boy doubtfully. I sniffed and huffed, "Follow me."
Silently, I turned and led the boy through the aquarium and towards the back exit. I opened the door and stepped out, peering at the sky. It was grey and threatened to rain on me if me stayed outside. Wordlessly, I slipped back inside, standing in the doorway. The boy stood outside, shifting uneasily from foot to foot.
"Go home. It looks like it's going to rain," I said, moving back. The door started to close.
"Where am I?!" blurted out the boy suddenly. The door closed.
I stared at the door in partial shock. Slowly I pulled the door open. The boy was still standing balefully outside the door, eyes immediately meeting mine.
"What?" I asked softly.
"Where am I?" repeated the boy.
I slipped outside. The door closed behind me. Knowing my luck, it probably locked as well.
"You mean you don't know?" I asked, frowning slightly. The boy shook his head dolefully.
"Right..." I cleared my throat for what felt like the millionth time that day. I nibbled anxiously on my lip before looking at the boy.
"Where do you live?" I asked.
"Ummm..." A frown crossed the boy's face. He spun on his heel. His face fell as he realized he was staring at another brick red wall instead of whatever he was looking for. He twisted around to look helplessly at me.
"I don't know," he admitted.
"Did you just move here?" I asked.
Another thoughtful frown. This time the boy shrugged.
"Where are your parents?"
Another small shrug.
"What's your name?" I tried desperately.
