Snapdragon's POV

It was a beautiful day outside

I hummed as I walked along the hiking path. It was a bit unkempt, but that was OK! I had been here many times. I could easily avoid all the dips in the trail. I loved it up here in the mountains. Especially this one, Mount Ebott. I loved the rugged feel of nature. The other, closer mountains didn't quite feel right. The trails were well kept and around every turn was a shiny, new sign. Many people walked on those mountains. But not this one. Some people disappeared here years ago, and now nobody ever comes up here. Nobody except my family. We're weird, I guess. But, hey! You can't beat the view from up here. I can see for miles. Miles and miles. I can see that the nearby town is burning again. I wonder what's going on?

The sun was shining

No, I thought, I have to focus. Mom trusted me. She gave me an important task! I had to find Chip, our Boulder Dragon, and lead him back home. He wandered off sometimes, and it was important to quickly bring him back. If we just left him there, he'd get pretty hungry. He'd eat anything he didn't think was family. At least, that's what Mom told me. She's been working with dragons for years! I bet she knows everything there is to know about dragons!

The birds were singing

I was pretty far up now. The town was only a hazy blur. But... I still couldn't find Chip. I was getting worried. He had to be around here somewhere, right? I was going to find him, right? I couldn't let Mom down. What if she never trusted me again? I picked up the pace. I didn't know quite where I was, I hadn't been here before. Mom had always warned me not to go too far. I could become lost. Like the others. Those children all those years ago. But I had to keep going! I won't let Mom down, I thought, I will find him!

Flowers were blooming,

I couldn't leave. Not yet. Not with out finding Chip.

On days like these...

     "I... Can't... give up..."

Kids like you...

     I couldn't think. I couldn't feel. I just ran.

Suddenly, I tripped. My oversized and comfortable boots had betrayed me. I stumbled. Then, I fell. I fell into a hole in a small cave in the side of the mountain. I hadn't noticed it. I barely did then. I fell.

              And fell.

                        And fell
