Snapdragon's POV
Thud
I landed on a patch of dirt. I nearly fell on a pile of rocks, but I twisted around like a cat. A creative solution, if I do say so myself. But, where am I? I was sitting in a dim circle of light. I tried to look beyond it, but I couldn't make anything out. There were probably a lot of rocks and stone. And dirt. I stood up, dusting myself off. How had I gotten dirt in my hair? Was it from the fall? After I was sure I was clean, I took a calming breath.
And I stepped into the unknown.
It was too bad, I didn't find Chip. He was probably off eating someone. Strangely, I couldn't help but feel lucky. I was off on an adventure! I was sure Mom wouldn't mind. She'd probably have to go find Chip, but she was great at that. She'd be fine.
I nearly fell after tripping on a stone slab. I hadn't been paying much attention to my surroundings. Well, it was super dark! I had my eyes closed. They weren't being very helpful. It's not like I want to stumble around in the dark! I just... It's easier this way! It's not like I'm old. I don't have Mom vision. I don't know what's going on like she does. But I'm trying, OK? I'm doing my best.
I smacked into a wall. It was weirdly smooth.
Eh, it's fine. I walked on. I didn't really know where I was going. I just ran my hand against the wall and hoped for the best. Time was meaningless. The walls crumbled underneath my fingers. It was oddly satisfying. Ceramic dust pushed it's way under my nails. I didn't mind. Every so often, when I felt something round under my feet, I picked it up. I was almost always a delightfully smooth rock. Only once was it a spider. The rocks clinked and rolled around in my pockets. It was the background music to my anime. I could feel my blood pumping. I was ready for anything.
"Anything", apparently, was another child.
Thud
Dirt cascaded down, along with a small human and a bush.
"Arceus, what just happened?" I said.
"I just dropped in to say hello." The child said, standing up.
Light shone through the giant hole in the ceiling. I could see the other child clearly. She looked about my age. She was wearing crocs.
"Hi! I'm Snapdragon!"
She looked at me.
"I like your energy." She said. "I'm Willow." She smiled.
"How'd you get here?" I was eager to hear how she got here. Why did she climb the mountain?
"Well, where there's a Willow, there's a way." She laughed.
I giggled. It's not quite what I expected, but it was funny.
"Do you like jokes, too?" Willow asked.
I nodded enthusiastically.
"Same," She looked around. "Huh, pretty dark, isn't it?"
"Yep. I was walking around with my eyes shut until now." I gestured at the ceiling.
"This is what I've been training for." She muttered.
"Hmm?"
"Oh! Uh, sorry. I was kidding. I just..." She shifted uncomfortably, as if she'd been caught. "...I like to walk around blindfolded sometimes. It's fun! I put those fabric headbands over my eyes, and then I have to find my way around a once familiar environment."
"That's sound super cool!"
She looked at me. "Really?"
"Yeah! I like your eyes! I've never seen someone with red eyes before!" This was how sentences were supposed to be, right?
"What"
"Your eyes. They are awesome!"
"...What!?"
"You OK?'' She was acting kind of odd.
"I have brown eyes." Willow enunciated every word carefully.
"W-what?" I couldn't understand. "You have... red eyes."
"No I- No I don't!" She shook her head. "That'd be weird."
"Why would it be weird?"
"Because I have brown eyes."
"What?"
"What?"
This was going nowhere. I rifled through my pockets, trying to find something useful. My hand touched something round and smooth. I pulled it out. It was a nice, grey rock. I handed it to Willow.
Willow put the rock in her pocket. She handed me a shiny, red bottle cap. I don't know where she got it from. Does she even have any pockets? But I liked it. And I liked Willow. She was nice.
"Willow," I gave her my biggest smile. "You have awesome red eyes. Maybe they were brown before? All I know is that your eyes look like tiny Lava Dragons."
Willow looked at me skeptically, but she didn't protest.
"I've heard," I counted on my fingers. "That my great... great great grandma once had beautiful blue eyes. She was really proud of her eyes. But one day, her husband was accused of a crime he didn't commit!"
"Uh, Snapdragon?" Willow asked. "Not to be rude, but what does this have to do with my eyes?"
"I'm getting there! Anyway, he was to be hung, as they do. Granny was mighty upset. She was filled with a strong sense of justice! She would not rest until her husband's name was cleared."
"Was it cleared?" Willow looked hopeful.
"Nah, turns out he didn't steal all the horses. He did, however, kidnap a couple of people and hold them for ransom. That's how he afforded his hat. It was a nice hat."
"It must have been." Willow nodded.
"So, she was filled with a sense of justice. It took every bit of her justice driven soul to find out the truth. After that, her eyes were a startling yellow." I made a sparkling movement with my hands.
"Wait, was she the one to find out about the kidnapping?" Willow asked.
"She sure did! It wouldn't have been right if he wasn't brought to justice." I sure was proud of my great great great grandma.
"I guess so." Willow was still confused, but the look on her face told me she didn't want to know.
"Apparently, if someone uses all of the power of their soul, their eyes change colors! Their eyes are then the same color as their soul. Pretty nifty, huh?" I giggled.
"Why do I feel like I'm in the tutorial of a game?" Willow sighed.
