"What are you doing?" David stared at us, and Damon slowly moved off of me so I could climb down off the bed. He followed.
"David, I'm sorry—"
Damon cut me off. "I'm not." He raised his eyebrows looking at David. "I started it." He told David, squaring his shoulders and reaching down to smooth out his shirt.
I glanced over at Damon with wide eyes.
Is he insane??
I thought, switching my gaze back to David. He was staring at Damon, his hands balled into fists at his sides.
David inhaled deeply then looked at me, before he turned back to Damon. "Outside." He said lowly, and Damon drew his lips into a line. Nodding, he stepped past me and David and left the room.
"David, don't—" I started, but the look he gave me made me stop short. I crossed my arms and watched as he turned and left the room. Frustrated, I uncrossed my arms and snatched the remote off the bed, shutting off the TV. I wasn't dumb enough to follow them outside.
Part of me was angry that David was acting like this, and the other half of me felt upset at myself for letting Damon stay in the hotel room with me.
My attraction to him was too strong for my own good; I needed to be more careful.
*
It was an hour before the hotel door opened and David walked inside. I stood up off the bed and looked at him in question. He sent me an annoyed look, but when Damon walked in behind him, I got my answer.
Damon closed the door and looked up at me. His lips twitched and he winked at me.
Some nerve.
I shook my head and slowly sat back down on the bed.
"Wow, you're both in one piece." I said with pursed lips, looking between the two of them as they filed into the room.
David sat down on the couch chair and leaned forward onto his knees. "We need to talk."
I snorted. "Do we?"
Damon took a seat on the desk chair and spun it to face us.
"Oana, you're a grown woman, but—"
"Yes. I am." I cut him off, crossing my arms.
David let out a breath. "If you want to date Damon, I'm not going to stop you, but I don't approve of you two being in a bedroom alone." He rolled his eyes when I raised my eyebrows.
"I respect that, David." Damon agreed quietly.
I inhaled slowly. "Who said Damon and I were dating?"
Both of the guys looked at me with raised eyebrows.
I frowned. "I'm serious!"
Damon smirked. "Oana, will you be my girlfriend?" He looked at me and I gaped at him.
"What? Now?" I said, flustered.
Damon nodded calmly as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "Why not?"
David cut in. "You guys can do this later." He shook his head. "Damon, if you ever do anything to my sister that hurts her— including her getting shot at, again—" David shot a look at Damon, "I'll kill you. Understood?"
Damon sobered and nodded. "Understood."
"Great, now can the two of you go somewhere else to sort out your relationship status?" David looked at me waved towards the door. I opened my mouth, but Damon beat me to speaking.
"We're on our way out." He smiled at David, standing and ushering me towards the door.
I frowned and tried to turn back. "I don't have—"
"I'll buy you one." Damon said quietly, opening the door and pushing me out into the hall. "My car is parked in the garage—"
I cut him off. "No! I don't even have shoes!" I said quickly, moving back towards the hotel door.
Damon caught my arm and spun me around. "Oana," he said, "I'll buy you some. David needs a minute." He looked me in the eyes and I let out a breath.
"Grab me one more time and I'll kick you in the inappropriates, got it?" I pulled my wrist away from him and he raised his hands quickly in surrender.
We made our way down to the Rover in silence, and it wasn't until we were out on the highway that Damon cleared his throat.
"So, if this makes you uncomfortable, we don't have to talk about it now," he started, and I felt my heart beat pick up, "but if not, I'd appreciate talking about it." Damon glanced over quickly, before focusing his eyes back on the road.
I lifted my chin and raised my eyebrows. "I can't really go anywhere, can I?"
Damon smirked and reached over to press the lock button. "Not anymore."
I pursued my lips to keep from smirking. There was a long, slow silence, before Damon glanced back over at me.
I inhaled and nodded slowly. "So, talk."
Damon smiled. "I really like you, Oana Atkins," he started, and my stomach dropped, "and I would be honored to have you as my girlfriend." He slowed the car and took the exit. At the first area, he pulled the car over and parked, turning to look at me.
For a moment, I didn't meet his gaze and stared out the windshield, trying to calm my beating heart. Damon didn't rush me.
Finally, I turned and looked at him, mustering the courage to look him in the eyes. My heart was beating so fast, I wondered if he could hear it. I was definitely not expecting to be having this conversation tonight.
"Damon," I started slowly, and he smiled, "I like you too." I finished quietly, frowning when I wasn't sure what to say after that.
Damon cocked his head and took his hand off the steering wheel. "Is that a yes?"
I inhaled slowly before I nodded. "Yes. I would love to be your girlfriend." My lips parted into a smile and I laughed when Damon grinned and fist pumped the air. His eyes were dancing.
"Thank you." He said earnestly, reaching out to grasp my hand. "I won't let you down." He shook his head.
I rolled my eyes. "Yes, you will," I said, and Damon blinked, "but it's ok, because I'll probably forgive you." I smiled.
