I unlocked the door to my house and to no avail it was empty. i sighed throwing my back pack down next to my couch. "Your parents arent home?" Monty said concerned. "Yeah its a daily thing around here" i said with a laugh at the end. i walked into the kitchen and grabbed a soda from the fridge. "Want anything Mon?" i said. "No thanks." He said back. "ok well the guest room is up the stairs and all the way down the hall" i said almost yelling since he was almost halfway up. I opened my soda, grabbed my bag and headed up to my room. Once I got to my room I remembered I had forgotten my phone on the kitchen counter. I was about to go back downstairs when i saw monty looking at an old photo of me and my deceased best friend Leyla. "it was a suicide" I said to him in a sad tone while looking at the picture too. "Oh, im sorry Ash" He said as he put his arm around my shoulders.Pulling me closer to him."Its fine" i replied back. "She would always get bullied and she didnt have many friends. Her parents were always fighting and her dad abused her." I added on as I started to tear up. "i miss her so much though, i think about her everyday and if i could have done anything to stop it." I couldnt hold it back any longer. I felt the tears trickling down my face. I sobbed into my hands and Monty pulled me into a warm hug. "hey, Ash its not your fault. You did everything you could, she made the decision on her own" He said as he pulled away and put his hands on my cheeks, wiping the tears. "Thank you Monty." i said. "Ok tell you what, how about we watch a movie to get your mind off of all this" he said half smiling. "That sounds like a great idea" i said smiling while wiping the stray tears off my face.

It was the next morning and we were both getting ready for school. I was curling my hair when i got a text message from Jessica, saying that she wanted to introduce someone to us. I replied with an ok and i went back to getting ready. "So what are we gonna tell people when we show up at school together?" he said with a little laugh at the end. "Nothing. We'll keep them guessing" i said with a smirk on my face. "sounds fun." he replied also with a smirk on his face. I laughed while shaking my head and went back to what i was doing.

When we pulled into the schools parking lot and got out, all eyes were on us. We just kept walking until we met up with our group. "there they are." Marcus said. We greeted everyone and then Jessica came up to us with someone trailing behind her. "Hey guys, this is Alex" she said while pushing him to greet us. "hey" he said to everyone. i looked at Alex taking in his aperance. He had bleached blonde hair, a nose ring, and was really skinny. "ive seen you before, you hang out with hannah right?" Zach said. "Uh yea" Alex replyed in a confused tone. I sighed and asked jessica to talk to her alone for a second. She then followed me to my locker so i could get my stuff. "So what did you want to talk about?" she asked in a confused tone. "look jess i love you, your like my best friend. I only want the best for you and Hannah isnt really the best." I told her in a sincere tone. "what are you talking about Ash? Hannah hasn't done anything wrong." Jessica replied. i sighed and continued, "Hannahs a slut jess. On her second day here, her and Justin had sex on a slide. her second day!" i said whisper yelling the last part. "you cant prove any of that is true ash, you know how boys get. It could have just been a kiss and justin is making up that whole story. It was just a picture getting taken out of context, thats all." she replyed. "but what if its true Jess? i dont want you to get caught up in her drama, ok?" i said back while putting my hand on her shoulder. She took a second to think about it and then replyed with an "ok, sure" and a smile. We both walked back to the group and the guys seemed to be getting along pretty well, considering Alex was a new addition and all. The bell rang and we all went our seperate ways to first period.

As kids started filling out of their classrooms and into the halls i walked to my locker and opened it up. I heard stomping and looked behind me. In a split second i felt a hand go across my face. i held my cheek where i had just got slapped and looked up to see a angry Hannah looking at me with wide eyes. "What the fuck!" i yelled back at her, grabbing the attention of everyone in the hallway. "your a fucking bitch! why would lie to Jessica and ruin my friendship with her?" She yelled back at me. "Its not a lie, your a slut Hannah Baker." i said to her and slammed my locker shut. Before she could say something back i stormed past her, hitting her shoulder and making my way into the girls bathroom. I locked myself in a stall and started to process what just happened. I then got a sharpie out of my back pack and started writing things like Hannah Baker is a slut and Hannah Baker should die on the stall door. I looked back at my work and heard the bathroom door open. I quickly closed the sharpie, put it in my back pack and opened the stall door to see Hannah crying while looking in the mirror. She turned around and stared at me. I wasted no time and walked past her and out of the bathroom, having no regrets to what i just did.
