Rider came into the room with a book in her hands. It was a hard, glossy cover with bloody characters glaring at each other, with a falling apart building behind them. In big red letters, the name RYLIE RIDER was written at the bottom of the cover. Rider's face was the kind of one that lit up a room. Her eyes shone like stars and it felt like my heart would exploded. Being this proud of someone was unreal.
" This. This is my baby. I just bought it at the local bookstore. They put it in front! In the must-reads!"
" You just brought something you made."
" Well... Yeah!"
" That's adorable."
We'd been together four months now. She had worked hard to make her book the bestseller it deserved to be. I had worked hard to test out all the killing techniques. Mandy had worked hard to convince her mother's lawyers to stop annoying her. Everything was great. Everything was really great.
Which meant something was doomed to go wrong, right... But I ignored my gut feeling and decided to get up from my armchair and wrap my arms around my girlfriend's corps— body. She sighed against me.
" You know, I couldn't have done this without you. You've been overwhelmingly supportive."
" Baby, why wouldn't I be? You're the most talented woman I know— heck. Most talented person I know."
" Now that is extremely vomit-worthy. Please stop."
" I love you, you mean woman."
" Not mean. Simply... Honest."
Honesty isn't something I'm used to. Now, I don't want to start up a whole weepy story about my past, but I have to admit truthfulness didn't find it's place in the Adams household. My dad was the good parent out of the pair. Worked diligently, made time for me and my siblings... But mum... Wow. She got violent pretty often. Was real mean. She'd lie about everything. Small and big stuff. Near the end of her life, she got arrested for drug possession and murder. I do respect that she practiced the craft. Only her way of killing was gruesome and un-artistic. She killed by mistake at first, then only because she was drunk. Nothing glamorous. Nothing amazing.
" JJ? You okay?"
I shuddered.
"I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm fine."
Rider's arms tightened on me.
" You don't look fine. You sure you're okay?"
" I'm fine, babe. Now, lemme see that sweet jewel there!"
She handed me the book, a large smile appearing on her gorgeous lips.
" Read the note! Before the first chapter!"
I smiled a tight lipped smile and opened the book. Its pages smelled like they were freshly printed, it was new paper, that smell that any book amateur truly delights in. The note was a quote from scream:
Aahhhh
— Scream 1,2,3 and 4
and then it was a sweet little note
I couldn't have done this without my sweet J.J. Love you so much. I hope you enjoy this as much as the other readers out there, maybe even more.
I hugged her once more. Her hair smelled like Apple Shampoo. What did I do to deserve such a girl? Can signing up on a dating app really make you find the love of your life? Cause I think that's my case right now.
" When I'll be a bestselling author , they'll all be asking who's the JJ. And I'll relish in the fact that your first name is Jill."
" You truly are cruel."
" I write gory books. What did you expect?"
" Dunno. A little ounce of nice in that sexy body of yours?"
" Keep dreamin', hot stuff."
" Don't objectify me, miss."
" Mh. I guess I could agree with that, or..."
Her lips met mine. Her delicate hands found my hair. Mine found her lower back.
" That's fine too..." I whispered in between kisses
Her lips were so soft... It almost made me forget about the fact that I'd made a really bad decision five minutes she'd arrived...
