Grace POV

There he goes again. Jake was on the table dancing like hell. He was never shy, even when they were kids. Grace recalls once, in kindergarten a teacher made them hold hands and join together in a circle. She asked for a volunteer instructor to stand in the middle and Jake's hand shot up faster than lightning. He's always been full of confidence.

She watched them. The cheerleaders and company. They stood close to the table, drooling. Grace, on the other hand, stood across the room. Everyone was drunk tonight; except her.

Stacy stood front and centre looking furious. The attention wasn't on her tonight and she hated it. She looked as though she might pull Jake off of the table and get on it herself. Jake and Stacy. They were Bembridge high's it couple. The head cheerleader and the captain of the football team. Basically celebrities. They've been together almost two years. Before that though, Jake earned his reputation by hooking up with every girl he thought was hot. A real game player.

Of course, he wasn't always that way. Back when they were friends, he was the kindest boy she knew. He was soft-hearted like his mom. Over the years, however, he changed and so did she; and so they grew apart and into two completely different people. They walked past each other in the hallways and pretended that they never knew each other. It was a cliché. One that she hated.

After the party, everyone passed out all over Jamie's house. Stacy was mildly drunk and went to the kitchen to pour herself a glass of ice water. Grace was sitting on the counter grabbing a pack of bbq chips that hadn't been opened. Stacy's eyes were slits. "What do you think you're doing?" Grace didn't miss a beat. "Helping myself" she said, matter of factly. "Well, go help yourself somewhere else. These parties aren't meant for the likes of you." She said with an angry huff. Grace proceeded to open the packet and pop a chip in her mouth. She munched on it loudly. Stacy seemed frustrated more than usual. Grace hopped off the counter and stopped a foot away from her. Smiling, she said "Lovely hanging with you as always" and sauntered off. When she was a few feet away she turned back to witness Stacy internally scream while holding her fists to her sides and shaking wildly. God, she loved to get under her skin.
