"Shall we go to one of the rooms then?"

"Yes. Thank you, Lair."

Lair smiles warmly. "It's no problem at all, Queen Lahira. Follow me."

He strides down the hallway and Kyma's mother follows him, the bubbles of Nami and Fala being towed behind her. Kyma hesitates, looking at the unconscious Alai. The others go down the corridor as Kyma tries to wake Alai.

"Alai, Alai. Come on, I need you to get up."

Alai doesn't move, still heavily unconscious, and Kyma sighs. She bends over and struggles to lift Alai, not wanting to leave Alai there alone. She gets Alai up off of the chair, only for her legs to crumple beneath her, still weak from their lack of use. Before she can hit the floor, she is caught by her armpits. She is still holding onto Alai, and as she watches, a swirl of water collects beneath Alai and lifts her into the air. Kyma is lifted onto her feet and turns around to see Lair.

"Are you Kyma?"

She nods. "Yes. Thank you."

"You're welcome. You haven't used your legs recently, have you?"

Kyma shakes her head. "No, I was stuck in my tail for a week."

"Ah. Would you like my help getting Alai to the room?"

Kyma sighs in relief, almost crying. "Yes, please."

He carries Alai down the hall with his little disk of water, and Kyma follows. As Kyma steps into the room, lair re-exits. The room is small, but as Kyma looks around at it, she is met by an uncomfortable resemblance to the room with the slab at Dr. James' facility. Her face pales, and her mother sees it as she turns towards them.

"Kyma, are you all right? You look pale."

Kyma swallows. "Yes . . ."

Her mother frowns. "Kyma, you look as if something is bothering you. Tell me."

"It's the slab in the center of the room. It's making me think of the Facility." She doesn't even realize that she has given the place a name with her distinct usage of the word. Her mother nods in understanding.

"This room isn't like the one there. That is an examining table if needed. And you can't dry out, you have your legs right now."

Kyma nods, and her face regains some of its color, but it's still pale. One of her hands reaches up to clutch at her larimar pendant. From her bubble, Fala reaches out her hand to touch Kyma on the shoulder.

"You're alright, Kym. We are all here with you. Nothing will happen, you're fine." Kyma's mother looks at them quizzically, and Fala explains. "When Kyma is nervous or uncomfortable, she clutches her pendant. It's always been her lifeline when she is in trouble."

Lair enters the room once again, and looks at Kyma. "So, are you from the Eastern Kingdom? Where's your red cap? Or did you lose it and that's why you were stuck with a tail? That would make sense with you having one of our pendants."

Kyma frowns. "Why does everyone think I'm from the Eastern Kingdom?"

Lair frowns. "You're not? But your skin is so pale."

Kyma laughs sharply. "No, I'm just albino. My body doesn't produce melanin, except in my eyes, so I don't have much color."

"Then who are you? I've never seen you or your friends before, and I would have known if you were one of Alai's friends."

Before Kyma can answer, her mother ends the interrogation. "She is my daughter. Lair, I know you are trying to protect the kingdom, but it isn't your job to interrogate the guests of our kingdom. Now, can we please do what we came here to do?"

He sighs, just as Alai starts to come to. She lets out a groan and looks blearily at everyone. "What happened?" She sees Lair. "Oh, hi Lair. When did I get to your office?"

Kyma's mother answers Alai. "Seachild, you overworked yourself and used up all your energy reserves. You know better than to do that. So why didn't you release the water and let me take over?"

Alai looks down at the floor through her water disk. "I didn't want to let you down, Queen Lahira."

The Queen's voice is stern. "If you had stopped at your limits, you wouldn't have done so. You let me down by not taking care of yourself."

Alai mumbles. "I'm sorry, Queen Lahira." she looks up at Lair. "Can you let me down now? And don't say this isn't you, I know your style and I can sense that this is your magic."

Lair laughs. "Yes, Alai."

The disk lowers to the floor and swirls away into the air. Alai stumbles momentarily when her feet hit the floor but quickly regains her footing. Once on the floor, they all turn towards Kyma's friends. Their bubbles float over to the corner, and as Kyma looks closer, she realizes that there is a small pool over there. The bubbles sink into the pool and release, depositing the girls into it. Once that it is done, Lair turns towards Kyma and her mother.

"Queen Lahira, what did you and your guests need me for?"

________________________________________________________________________________
What do you think Lair will help them with? Why did Alai know Lair's magic patterns?
Also, in reference to Kyma clutching her pendant when she is nervous/ uncomfortable/ scared. This is real, from my own experience. I do the same, with my own larimar pendant, but mine is actually a turtle and not a water lily. I do it because I have a couple phobias that have given me panic attacks or anxiety being near the source of the phobia.
Now, on a happier note, here is your next, and sadly last, drawing of Kyma.
