"Time to get up Case!" my mother's voice wakes me from my sleep.
My eyes slowly open and flutter at the bright sunlight coming from my window. I don't move a muscle.
"Do you really want to be late on the first day of your senior year?"
I respond with a grunt because I'm too lazy to talk. I contemplate whether to obey my mother's orders or stay in bed. I choose my second option. I cover my face with a blanket to hide from the daylight. Hopefully my mother has enough curtesy to leave and let me sleep for another ten minutes.
She carries on the one sided conversation, "Seriously Casey! Izzie's downstairs waiting for you."
I practically jump out of bed when I hear her name. I stand on my two feet wide awake. "What? She's here?" I immediately reach for my phone on my nightstand.
I must have been in a deep sleep because I have four missed calls from Izzie and ten messages, all saying she's on her way to pick me up. "Shit," I quickly search my room for my stupid Clayton uniform. I feel Elsa's presence linger by the door. After basically turning my room upside down, I finally find my uniform and immediately start changing.
"I haven't seen you this full of energy since I told you Sam was moving in with Zahid."
"Although I truly miss my dear brother," I frown. "There's more food for me now," I stick my tongue out and she shakes her head, disapprovingly. "Now get out of my room!" My mom flees while I fling a t-shirt at the closing door.
After getting dressed into this prison suit, I run into the bathroom. I quickly brush my teeth and make a sad attempt to fix my hair. I don't look the best but at least I didn't wake up with a pimple. Maybe this year won't be so bad.
I make my way downstairs and I get a whiff of breakfast that my mother must be cooking. My eyes land on girlfrie-
No, not girlfriend. My friend. We're just friends in this house. We agreed we'd keep our relationship on the low especially around our families. Izzie isn't ready. Plus, I'd rather not relive the story of Elsa and her lesbian fling with a female version of Doug.
I feel butterflies in the pit of my stomach when she greets me with a bubbly smile. I try to suppress my blushing but I fail. She's the only person that makes it hard to be cool around. She's dressed in her uniform looking well put together. Her shirt is tucked in perfectly and I can't find a crease in her blazer. She looks like she actually woke up on time, unlike me. I feel slightly embarrassed. "You look almost as nerdy as Paige," I don't even think before teasing her.
"Good morning to you too," she smirks.
We gaze into each other's eyes for a moment. I notice the light makeup that make her eyes sparkle. For a second I forget that we're supposed to be just "friends" because all I want right now is to kiss her.
"Izzie what's that on your neck?" Elsa pops out of nowhere, causing us both to drop our gaze. She examines her neck while furrowing her eyebrows. A light purple shade is on her neck. I feel my body heat up from the steamy memory of last night.
Izzie shifts uncomfortably. She looks at me, pleading a sign of help with her eyes but I only shrug. "I- uh- I burned myself trying to curl my hair. Never trying to look decent for school ever again," she giggles nervously.
"Does it hurt honey? Do you want some ice or-" Elsa asks genuinely concerned.
I don't even try to suppress my giggle because of how oblivious my mother is.
"No, no. I think I'm good," Izzie interrupts Elsa.
"We should probably get going before my mom brings out the bags a frozen broccoli," I propose.
