Liv's POV
Maddi was finally in a good place now that she was riding side by side with me on Spartan and I on Freya. We loved our horses. It was a time when neither of us would have ever thought that something bad would happen. It was an innocent time. It cleared our minds, we both needed that.
As we raced, I could see the light coming back into my sisters eyes. I don't know how much more darkness she could handle. It only made sense that her best friend was a beast that understood her as well as I did if not more. I clicked my heels in to Freya's side nudging her to speed up. She did and we were neck and neck with Maddi and Spartan.
I called out "Your not going beat us this time, Maddi Hatter." She laughed and yelled back "We will just see about that Livvy-poo." I laughed I hated that nickname but that's what she's called me since we were little tikes running around. I sped up and I had almost beaten her but at the last second she beat me by the nose hairs on Spartans snout.
It felt good to be away from every thing. Pappy whistled from the 2016 Dodge Journey. "Will you two get off the horses long enough to come help me get this stuff inside the house?" Maddi looked out to the driveway. She hopped down from her boy and yelled "Race ya, Livvy-poo"
I groaned "Oh it is so on Maddi Hatter." Honestly I didn't care if I was going to get all sweaty it just felt good to have my sister back. I finally beat the champion at her own game. I looked at her. I smiled in triumph. Maddi was right behind me and didn't notice that I had stopped and she slammed right into my back. "Ooof." We landed at pappy's feet and started to giggle. "Lets go ladies your bags are going to carry themselves in now are they?"
We got up and started loading our bags into our arms. We walked in to the ranch house and looked around and it seems like nothing had ever changed. I walked down the hall to the stairs. I ascended the stairs and opened the door to my bedroom that was more pink than anything. Just the way I liked it. My blanket was soft and fluffy. My dresser was an off white. On my dresser there was a picture of Momma, Daddy, Maddi and I. We all looked so happy. I missed them I set everything down and walked over to my window where I saw that Maddie had already gone back down for a second load of her things.
I sat on my bed for a moment and stifled a sob. I needed to be strong for my sister, because in the next few days we would be starting at a new school and we would be the new kids. This would be the first time we would ever have to do that. I wasn't sure how we would handle that, but together we could handle anything. I mean look at us we have handled the biggest thing either of us would ever have to face.
I headed back down for the rest of my belongings. After everything was done, I walked to the kitchen where I knew there was always juice and cookies. Pappy kept things like that in the house even after Nana died.
Maddi had joined me and stole the cookie that I was about to place in my mouth. "Hey, give me that." I whined.
"You know Liv you should really be watching your figure if you want to look good for the first day." She said around a mouthful of cookie. She was wrong, I really wanted that cookie. I needed to stuff my face with the calories.
With that I smiled "You know if you want to borrow my jeans you like so much on the first day you can but only if you give me back my fucking cookie Maddison Nicole."
