I walk into the police station and see Detective Marsh. Also known as, Al. He gives me a sad smile, knowing the day. "Hey, Al... Where's my dad?" My ask as I set my bag down, I always come by the station after school, even on this day.
"He's visiting" He says with hate. I already know what he means. Jeff. I nod. "How is Felica?" I ask. Felica is a girl he's been seeing for a few months, he's finally been able to get over Marie.
"She's okay. I guess. I wouldn't know, we broke up last week." Or not.
"What? Why?" I frown, Al has taken the role of older brother since the "incident" so I make it my job to be there for him.
"You know why Tweety." I smile at that. When I was about five I became obsessed with Tweety Bird, so he's called me Tweety ever since.
"Marie." I simply say. He nods.
"I know that Jeff was my best friend, but. I loved her. No, I still love her, whether she's here or not." He runs his fingers through his hair, I smile slightly. The door opens and I look over to see my dad, looking stressed.
"Hey buttercup." He says when he sees me.
"How is he?" I say, not bothering to say hello back. He sighs.
"He wants to see you, Layla." I shake my head.
"Nope. Nada, grande nada." He laughs a bit at that.
"Buttercup, he said he was sorry about last time and that he forgives you." I snort, the last I visited him he strangled me. I didn't have to go to the hospital but it was close. Since being in prison he's more bulky, and scary, and big. Did I mention scary and big?
"Dad. He hurt me and we both know he's as stubborn as me, he won't forgive me, ever." I sigh as I sit down in his big sheriff chair.
"Buttercup.." He sighs and walks over to his desk, I pout but stand anyway. I close the door to his office and sit across from him, on the other side of his desk.
"Buttercup. We both know what he did was wrong, me more than anyone but, you have to go see him sometime. You're still his little sister and he's still your big brother." He looks so torn and broken.
"Dad. Please. I get what you're going through, but what about me? You didn't see him do it, you don't hAve nightmares every night of his sick smile when he begs me not to tell anyone." I run my hands over my face, starting to shake.
"I have to go." I stand and quickly leave the room, my dad calling after me. I grab my backpack and leave, unlocking my car.
"Layla right?" I look over and see Daniel, the new kid.
"Uh, yeah. What are you doing here?"
"I'd like to ask you the same thing." He says playfully. I roll my eyes.
"My dad, he's the sheriff." He nods.
"I'm here to see my half brother."
"Who's your half brother?"
"Al Marsh." He says, he sees my look of surprise and is about to say more but Al walks out of the station. Daniel tells me goodbye and walks over to him, I get in the car and drive off. My head still spinning. New kid is Al's half brother? What!?
