Thor walked through the throne room, people cheering as he riled them up. Loki and Astrid stood side by side, her black dress flowing past her hips and Loki's suit perfectly tailored. "He's so obnoxious." Loki whispered and Astrid smiled.
"You'd be a much better king. You're smarter, wit-reliant, and if you ask me, much better looking." Astrid giggled quietly, Loki looking down at her with a smile.
"If it were up to me, you would not be marrying that oaf. Perhaps someone with black hair and green eyes." Loki jokes and Astrid rolled her eyes.
"You're just as obnoxious as him, Loki. Makes you wonder."
"About what?"
"Who should really be king." Odin stood, slamming his staff on the ground. The people silenced, Loki and Astrid sharing a look.
"Thor, Odinson. My heir. My first born. So long entrusted with the mighty hammer Mjølnir, forged in the heart of a dying star. It's power has no equal as a weapon to destroy or as a tool to build. It is a trusty weapon for a king." Astrid looked at Loki who was looking at the ground. She grasped his hand secretly. "Do you swear to guard the nine realms?"
"I swear." Thor replied.
"Do you swear to keep the peace?"
"I swear."
"Do you swear to put aside all selfish ambitions for the good of this realm?"
"I swear!" Thor raised his hammer.
"Then on this day, I,
Odin All-Father, proclaim you-" Odin stopped, listening closely."Frost Giants." Astrid muttered, slamming her foot on the ground. Her clothes changed quickly to battle armor, the gold chest plate, black chain mail skirt, green leggings and black leather boots.
She followed Loki, Thor, and Odin into the weapons vault, seeing all the ice and body parts. "The Jutons must pay for what they've done." Thor announced.
"They have paid. With their lives. The destroyer did its work, the casket is safe and all is well." Odin replies, keeping his back facing the three.
"All is well? They broke into the weapons vault! If the Frost Giants had stolen even one of these relics-"
"But they didn't."
"Well I want to know why!" Thor boomed, stepping forward as Astrid and Loki stepped back. They knew better thank to object.
"I have a truce with Laufey, king of the Jutons." Odin explained.
"He just broke your truce! They know you are vulnerable!" Thor objected and Odin turned to face him.
"What action would you take?"
"March into Jutonheim as you once did. Teach them a lesson. Break their spirits so they'll never dare try to cross our borders again."
"You're thinking only as a warrior."
"Well this was an act of war!"
"This was an act of but a few, doomed to fall."
"Look how far they got!" Thor gestures to the room.
"We will find the breach in our defenses and it will be sealed." Odin reasoned.
"As king of Asgard-"
"But you're not king!" Odin yelled and it silenced Thor. "Not yet." Astrid looked up at Loki who was looking between his father and brother with sarcastic interest. "Astrid what would you do?"
"My king I would have a talk with Laufey, if he still lives by this truce as you say then he will have nothing to hide my lord. If we find signs of him lying, the truce may have to be broken. I believe we should consult in Heimdall as well. Perhaps he saw something suspicious but thought nothing of it. Even Heimdall can make a mistake my lord." Astrid announced, her voice regal and velvety.
"A very queen-like thought Astrid. Loki, you may return to your chambers. We will speak of this later." Odin walked away, leaving Thor fuming and Astrid and Loki watching him.
Thor yelled, flipping the banquet table over. "Thor! This is madness!" Astrid screamed at him, gesturing to the mess he was making.
"I was this close to becoming king. Now how much longer will I have to wait?!"
"It's not just about becoming king Thor!"
"No it's not! It's about protecting the people of Asgard which I can't do if I'm not king!"
"Odin knows what he's doing! He's been king longer than you've been alive!" Thor scoffed, walking away from her. "Don't turn your back on me Thor. I've stood by your side this long. When have I ever given you bad advice?"
"I'm not turning my back on you Astrid." Thor sighed, sitting on the stairs. Loki came out from around the pillar, sitting next to him. "It is unwise to be in my company at the moment brother. This was to be my day of triumph."
"It'll come. In time." Loki reasoned, watching as Astrid came to sit next to Thor as well.
"What's this?" Valstaag questioned as they walked in, grabbing a platter and piling it up with food.
"I think you're absolutely right. About the Jutons. About Laufey. About everything. If they found a way through our defenses once who's to say they won't try again, this time with an army?" Loki agreed, seeing the look on Astrid's face.
"That is what I was trying to tell father!" Thor boomed, running a hand through his hair.
"But there is nothing you can do without defying Father." Loki said and Thor stood. "No. No no no no no. I know that look."
"Count me out." Astrid stood, marching away. She turned, walking towards the stairs.
"Astrid! Astrid, wait." Loki called out, grasping Astrid's arm. "I'm going with Thor."
"Of course you are." Astrid scoffed.
"Astrid please. I'm going to make sure he doesn't get them killed. You know that I would never risk the well being of Asgard." Astrid sighed, looking up at Loki. "I want you to go to Father. Tell him Thor's plan. If you don't then we will all die."
"I hope you know I'm only doing this because I don't want Sif to die. She's the only one I tolerate around here." Astrid smiles and Loki smiled.
"Yes I know my lady." Loki smirked, grabbing her hand gently. "I also know what plans Father has for you."
"You mean the plans to marry me to one of his sons? I hope it's the prettier of the two." Astrid jokes and Loki spun her around.
"And which son might that be my lady?" Astrid hummed, stopping Loki from spinning her.
"Stay safe my prince." Astrid whispered, walking away. She climbed up the stairs, walking towards Odin's chambers. Astrid knocked upon the door, "So sorry to bother you my king but I must have a word. It is urgent and a life or death situation."
