CHAPTER 5: KHALIFA
Lagos, Nigeria.
The flicker of his long eye lashes could send cold chills down every girl's spine. The curviness of his eye brows, the suppleness of his lips,Pink lower one and a little darker pink upper one, the richness of his neatly clipped into moderation beards and his distinctive eyes got almost all the girls he knew tripping.
The tone of his rich chocolate skin, his moderately tall figure and a bit chubby body build were all a bonus to his radiant facial composition.
Khalifa sat on his executive chair, staring into his laptop screen and looking confused. There was no sign of smile on his face. He looked at his friend Mahmoud who was seated across the table and turned his face away from him to look at the screen again.
"Come on man, for how long would you avoid the topic"....Mahmoud asked Khalifa who didn't bother to look up at his friend.
"For as long as i can"..... Khalifa replied still focused on his laptop.
His secretary knocked and opened the door almost immediately, she peeped in making just her face visible..... "The chairman of NYC Clinton groups called to confirm your appointment with their board of governors for Monday morning, do you need me to give them an affirmation to go ahead and prep or do you need it rescheduled"......The secretary asked, sounding so professional in an accent that couldn't sound more American, only that it's fake."Keep it as scheduled please, thank you"....... Khalifa said, barely raising his head up to look at her.
He made a face and then closed his laptop and relaxed on the chair and closed his eyes while he began to rotate on it.
"i don't man, nothing is right anymore. I can't think, i can't focus....I just want to get this done and over with"...... Khalifa said, adjusting the cap he had worn on a light brown Kaftan.
"You can't get it done and over with, its marriage Kerlywan"..... Mahmoud said referring to him with his nick name 'Kerlywan'
"Its a life time thing, once you are in it you are in it, no running, no hiding, you have no choice but to make it work"...... Mahmoud said sounding so serious.
"I know man, i just don't know. I don't even know this girl. I don't know what she's like. I don't know what she likes, what she hates"..... Khalifa said rubbing his palm through his beards, like the answers lied there.
"Can't you call if off, i don't know man, but marrying a girl you don't love, a girl you don't have feelings for or desire, its disastrous man"....... Mahmoud said raising his brows and sounding conclusive all at the same time.
Khalifa looked at Mahmoud and started shaking his head. He bluffed out the gush of air through his mouth as his chest followed the motion. He sat up and placed his two elbows on the table and stretched out his arms, making gesture with them as he spoke.
"I can't. I'm trapped man. I can't go and tell Daddy that this is a bad idea. Daddy has been on my neck to get married since i was 25, since i took over the business. I guess being responsible and career driven have their price tags"....... Khalifa said with his eyes popping out as he said the words.
"You are 27, you took over the family business when it had a net-worth of five hundred million, now its at a about a billion, and going international , of course he is proud of you..... and with all those gold digging girls flocking around you the only way to keep you in check is if you get married, he's right on this one....but why didn't you tell him about Aaliyah, she's your girl, if you had told him you had a girl then probably he wouldn't be forcing you"....... Mahmoud said wondering.
