Irreconcilable

He Apologized

It's been six months since Cain and I met.
Five months since the trial.
Four months since I graduated.
Three since I started going to church with him.
Two since Alex purposed to Jess.
And a month ago Lora opened another restaurant.

Life has been good.

Good morning my name is Adrian-" I stop when I see who was sitting down at the table. I quickly regained my composure and finished, "how can I help you today?" I give the two a small smile hoping they won't start anything.

"I don't really know yet, what do you recommend?" Rob says looking up from his menu, his face falling when he sees me. He all of a sudden got nervous and then it clicked. Ron and this dude was a thing?!

"The burgers are good,"  I pause for a second, "unless your a chicken guy...I am."

"I-I think I'm a chicken guy." Ron Keeps his head down, understanding each other.

"Of y'all need more time I can go on and grab your drinks for you..?" I say looking over to the boy on the other side of the booth.

"Yeah I think I'm going to need a few more.." the boy at least a year or two younger than Ron speaks. "I'll take a tea." I turn to him.

"Ron?" I ask politely.

"Water." He says obviously uncomfortable with the situation.

"I'll be right back with those." I say and walk to the back. I don't know where that confidence came from but I was happy that after 17 years, 18 in a few days, I've stepped up and took back my life from my parents, from my childhood bully! Most importantly though I found the love of my life. Without him I still would probably be with my parents and in that school, getting beaten up by him. I grab their drinks and take them to the booth. They tell me their orders and I put them back in and attend to the other customers.

I really enjoy working here, not that I have to though. Honestly Cain probably wants me to stay at home, but it just so boring! I have to get out and do things!

Half of the time during the day he is out, so that's when I work and when he is off we spend lots of time together and we enjoy each other's company.  Thinking of the devil here he comes!

"Hey baby," he says pulling me to him and giving Me a kiss on the forehead. "How was your day?" I smiles at him and leaned up to give him a small kiss.

"You remember the dude that used to beat me up in school and threw me into the dumpster?" I ask him quietly. He nods and I continue, "turns out he's bi or gay he's sitting over there." I nod in a general direction. I see the anger flash on his face and starts over there. I grab him telling him to calm down. He pauses and looks at me.

"That asshole fucking beat you up daily." He whisper-shouts at me. "And if he thinks he can get away with that he's fucking stupid."

"Hey I squeeze his arm, "listen, I know he was awful before but it was just because he was gay or bi. He wanted to feel more manly or something. Just calm down." I grab his face and force him to look me in the eyes. His glare softens and he finally cools off.

"Okay." He nods "I'm just gonna go talk to him."

"No! Cain he's not worth it. He just calm down my shift ends in a few and we can go home and watch movies or whatever you want just give me a few."

"Okay. I'll be out in the car." He gives me a small kiss and walks to the door. I go on in the back and clock out and grab my jacket.

Walking out into the seating area I see Cain at Ron's table. I roll my eyes walking up to Cain.

"If you ever hurt him again you will have to deal with me. You understand?" Ron nods, "sorry to interrupt your date, I just wanted to make sure he's never going to hurt my boyfriend again." The boy in the booth nods in understanding.

"I'm so sorry!" I say "sometimes they just don't listen!" I say pointing to Cain. "What happened to waiting in the car?!"

"I'm going. I've said what I needed." He says stalking off to the door and leaving for real this time.

"Sorry about that," I smile at his date, "Ruth is going to take over for me, so if you need anything don't hesitate to get her. Have a good night!" I say, then turn around and start to the door.

"Adrian wait." Rons says quickly and I turn around, "I have to apologize  for all the times I was rude to you and beat you up." He looks down at his intertwined fingers. "I just wanted to be like you, okay with my sexuality. I did know what you was gout through at home and my situation wasn't as bad but still not the best. So again in really sorry for using you as my venting tool. I wish I would have handled everything better back then. I wish I would have had jack back there before and I would have been a hell of a lot happier."

"Apology accepted!" I reach out my hand to shake his. He shakes my hand. "It was nice to meet you Jack." I wave back to the boy and he smiles and waves back. "It was surprisingly good to see you, bye Ron."

"Bye Adrian." I walk away feeling like a weight has been lifted. Now everything is good. Everything is healing properly and nicely.

"Hey, what took you so long?" Cain says, ready to go back in and hurt Ron.

"He apologized."
