IN Ahidden corner of a peaceful village, inside a small two-story cottage, a sightless twenty-six-year-old named Sahar Calypso sits upon the neatly swept bottom floor. A nameless child sits ahead of her, his mouth agape and eyes wide as he watches the girl float serenely off the ground. The Child cannot understand her, but the same three words leave her mouth – one after the other, barely a pause between each phrase.
"Be with me," she whispers to herself. "Be with me."
She is calm. Her legs are crossed beneath her as she levitates, her hands resting on her knees. Her heart is beating at such an eased pace; she can't recall a time she has ever felt so calm. Ever since The Child has been by her side, peace isn't something Sahar experiences too often.
The Child she swore to protect with her life is wanted by many, from every planet imaginable. No one has ever succeeded in capturing the creature, and that led to a pretty hefty bounty on Sahar's head, too. Their life together consists of constantly moving – jumping from planet to planet to find a safe place to call home until the inevitable happened once more.
