My teacher, she is one that you go into their class with the standards you've made from the rumors and stories your classmates have fed you. I walked into that art class thinking she was a demon from hell sent to destroy the hopes and dreams of Middle Schoolers. She wasn't. Surprise. She was dramatic and had a temper that made me want to shove a paint brush through the wall but not as horrible as I thought her to be. But one day she said something unforgivable...

In my school there are a lot of twins but the top dogs of them all are Lewis and Rose. They were fit, comfortable in their own skins, and cooler than the other side of the pillow. They were the ones to be. Rose was in my art class, she sassed and joked but not a bad kid. She wore white pants and a burgundy, crimson sweater with a gap in the shirt above her chest, not showing anything really but on her she was beautiful. The jeans hugged her in all the right places and her shirt showed you just how crazy her figure was.

She walked in and got into a conversation with the art teacher. What the art teacher said made me so mad I almost interrupted her in spite. She said, "Rose you shouldn't look like that. What you're wearing makes you look twenty and that's not ok."

My art teacher, the one who said her class was a no judgement area, body shamed my peer because her body was amazing and the clothes she wore conservatively told everyone she was a strong, fit, girl.

"I've worn this to church..." Rose said, crossing her arms over her chest, avoiding eye contact with the teacher.

My art teacher shook her head, "That's not okay. That is a mall outfit or a friend outfit."

  Rose shrugged, "Well I did."

Luckily the bell rang before the art teacher could spew anymore garbage...

I hate that this happened and that Rose was treated as though she was wearing something totally inappropriate and revealing. The fact that my teacher shamed my classmate for having curves and clothes that fit them made me sick. Me and Rose aren't close but I wanted to tell her how beautiful she was after that happened. I think that a person's body is their own and if they are comfortable with it they shouldn't be put down for it. In that moment, my art teacher was those rumors I heard.
