Chapter 1.
Sophie POV-
"god dammit dad." I mumbled under my breath, storming out the front door of our run down apartment. "dad!" I screamed, not receiving a response. "dad!" I screamed louder, but still didn't hear anyone. I began sprinting down the hallway, turning corners and running down the stairs. I finally reached the busy streets of New York City and ran into the alley next to our complex. I rolled my eyes, finding him exactly where I had expected. "dad this isn't funny anymore," I snapped, walking up to him and pulling the vodka bottle out of his right hand and a cigarette out of his left. I threw the cigarette on the ground and smushed it under my sneaker. "this needs to end."
"Don't tell me what to do, Sophina." He wobbled closer to me. the amount of alcohol on his breath was unbearable, he reeked and his body smelt like it hasn't been washed in days.
"I'm sick of this, Jerry!" I yelled at him- I rarely called him father or dad because, to be honest, he hasn't been a father to me in years. I barely knew the man in front of me anymore. "I told you, one more time and I'm leaving!"
"You're not leaving me," he whispered and stepped closer.
"I am." I pushed him against the brick wall behind him and sprinted back to our tiny apartment. Once I was in my closet of a bedroom, I grabbed my 2 duffle bags and my small backpack. I had packed my clothes and all my valuables the third time this happened, just in case of history repeating itself. I've threatened him to leave before, but I never had the courage to do so. However, right now, I've never been so determined to leave in my life. I opened my pack and grabbed the envelope I have been filling since I could first remember.
I began walking down the stairs -yet again- when Jerry was walking up. "You'll be back." He pushed me against the wall, "you always come back." Gritting my teeth, I shook my head, receiving a hard slap in the face. He gripped my wrist with all his might and pressed our foreheads together. I held my breath and turned away, trying not to look into the demon's eyes. "you will never succeed, you're ugly and stupid. Just like your mother."
"I hate you!" I yelled at him, "at least she was there for me!" I screamed, spitting in his face. His eyes widened at my actions and he retaliated, smacking me hard across the face again before pushing me towards the stairs.
"Leave! You're worthless!" His voice faded as I ran as fast as I could down into the the streets and the first taxi that noticed me.
"JFK airport please." I whispered and the driver looked at me with a sympathetic face.
"are you alright, dear?" He questioned me, turning around slightly in his seat.
Blinking a couple of times I nodded and he started driving off.

I hopped off the plane as soon as the pilot announced the doors were open. I went straight to the nearest desk and began asking for a car. When the car arrived, the driver informed me I had to pay before we went anywhere. I handed him a few pounds before he opened the back door and allowed me to get in.
I looked through my envelope, noticing I still had enough money to last me the next few weeks. I'd have to live in a hotel for the next few days and find a job fast.
When he dropped me off at a fairly nice hotel, I thanked him and sauntered up the front stairs and walked through the revolving doors. "How may I help you?" A light haired woman asked in a posh accent when I reached the front desk.
"I'd like a room please." I told her, simply.
"May I see I.D.?" She asked me and I quickly pulled my student card out of my pack.
