Chapter 2.
Sophie POV-
My daily routine continues as I rise from the foreign bed in Zayn's guest room. Walking over to the calendar I had tacked to the wall, I crossed out today's date, October 30th. I've now been in London with Zayn for a little over two weeks and I've made no progress. Besides the fact that he still doesn't know my name, I've barely talked to him; he's been trying so hard, but I refuse to let him in. I'm going to find a job and leave- leave his flat, leave him and leave his life. The only thing is, I can't seem to find a job.
I pulled a few clothes out of my bag and dressed myself. I never unpacked because I wasn't planning on staying here very long. After washing up and putting on minimal makeup, I walked into the kitchen, shocked to see Zayn sitting there with tea and biscuits.
"Morning." He looked up and handed me a mug. I gratefully took it, although I was quite shocked he was here, he is normally off to work by now.
Taking a sip, I sat on the opposite side of the counter before awkwardly coughing, "shouldn't you be working?"
He smiled at my question, taking another sip of tea, "day off." He told me, shrugging. "how about you? Found a job yet?"
I shook my head whilst frowning.
"you know you're welcome to stay here, right?" He told me for the millionth time since I've been here.
I stifled a laugh, "you told me, it just doesn't feel right if I don't have the money to pay you for my stay."
"You don't have to pay me, I offered." He scratched his head, "plus, money isn't a problem."
"I just feel terrible about it." I informed him of my feelings.
"Please don't," he shook his head, "really, it's my pleasure."
"You don't even know me." I told him in disbelief.
He frowned, "I know, but I'd like too."
His words caught me off guard, why would he want to know me out of all people? No one wanted to know me back home. I had too many problems that people just didn't want to be bothered with, so why him?
"Why?" I asked him in a whisper.
He shrugged, averting his gaze to his cup of tea. "you intrigue me. when I saw you, I wanted to know everything about you. You're interesting."
"How?" I whispered, staring at him. He lifted his head to look at me and I quickly turned away, extremely interested on the chipping black nail polish on my fingernails.
"Well for starters, your accent. It's American, isn't it?"
"I don't have an accent, you do," I told him with a slight giggle, "but yeah, New York."
"Ah, I love it there." He smiled but then his face turned serious again, "then why are you here by yourself?"
I gulped and stated simply, "I ran away."
"But why London?" He asked, stil confused. "Why would you come to a completely different country?"
"It's always been a dream of mine, I guess." I told him as I shrugged, and earned a nod in return.
He opened his mouth then closed it quickly and I just stared at him with an eyebrow raised. He opened his mouth again, them closed it and chuckled. "Can I ask you something?" He finally said, making me frustrated. Why was he laughing at this? It wasn't funny.
I waited for him to ask, staring daggers into his face and he blinked a couple of times before realizing I was waiting. "What is your name, love?"
"Sophie." I told him and he gave me a warm smile.
"Why did you run away, Sophie?" He asked me and I just shook my head before rising from my seat. I placed my cup, now empty of tea, in the sink and wiped my mouth, removing any biscuit crumbs.
"You're all out of questions for today, Zayn." I told him, grabbing my crappy phone off the hall table and heading towards the door.
"You need a new phone." Zayn laughed as he followed me.
I rolled my eyes, "not everyone rolls in money like you do," I paused, thinking back to the picture on tumblr from a few weeks ago, "what do you do anyways?"
"Oh," he hesitated before his mobile rang. He jumped and quickly answered it. "yeh?... Alright, I'll be over in a few."
He hung up and shrugged, "I'll be going then." I told him.
"Yeah, good luck, erm, job hunting." He smiled and opened the door for me. I nodded and walked out the door.

Zayn POV-
"So her name's Sophie?" Liam asked me and I nodded. "Are you gonna ask her to come tomorrow?"
Shrugging, I told him, "I was going to, but I don't know man."
"You should. Get her out, she probably needs it."
Liam's call really saved me today. I'm just getting to know Sophie, I don't want her to know who I am or what I do. If she finds out, she'll look at me differently. Everyone does.
All the boys are going to this Halloween party tomorrow and they want me to bring Sophie. They want me to help her make friends and get used to London. They've never met her, she's pretty secluded. When I have them over, she's either looking for a job or stays locked in her room. This morning was the most I've talked to her since she's been here. It's pretty devastating, actually. She's so different and locked up and I really wanted to know her, to know what she was all about. Why she had those bruises when she first got here, why she was even here in the first place. It all didn't make sense and I really want to break this wall she has up. There must be a reason she doesn't let people in and I really want to find out why.
"Yeah, maybe I will invite her." I looked at my wise friend, "thanks mate."
