The archeress looked over to her friends waving and shouting at her to roll to the side.
But before she even noticed what had happened, the beast emerged from below and yanked her up in the air.
The Blangonga caught her in her right leg and sunk its teeth deep into her thigh. Runa got tossed through the air and landed in the snow next to the monster.
She was lying there in complete silence. The attack came so unexpected, she didn't even have the time to scream.
Brandon needed a moment to fully understand what had just happened to his partner. But he quickly refocused and took the lead.
"Donniel! You on the right, I'll take the left!"
He nodded and then they both sprinted towards the creature - to keep it away from Runa, as well as preventing the monster from escaping.
Tess remained behind on the ground. She would have helped too, but the sharp ice shards all over her body denied any fast movements.
The adrenaline gave Donniel the strength to charge at the Blangonga at full speed. He thrust his lance at the beast's face and actually managed to break off one of its fangs.
"That's what you fucking get you piece of shit!"
The Blangonga bounced back and let out another ear-shattering roar that kept on ringing in their heads continuously.
Brandon dropped down next to Runa and held her in his arms.
"B-Brandon...?" she stuttered, while reaching out her hand, "How d-"
He interrupted her and grasped her hand firmly.
"Shh, it's okay. Stay calm now. Don't move."
He tried calming her down, but soon realized he himself slowly became desperate.
'Why is it that everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong?!'
The shock steadily lost its influence on Runa and she slowly began feeling the aftermath of the monster's assault. She glanced down at her leg to find it covered in fresh blood and punctured by two mighty tusks.
She immediately panicked and cried out in pain.
"My leg!!" tears came rushing to her eyes, "My leg! Ahh, it hurts! Brandon! Do something, please!"
She began sobbing hysterically, "Help me, please!! It hurts!"
Droplets of sweat formed on Brandon's forehead. He couldn't believe what was happening here. His group was at its limit and that damned beast refused to die.
He took out his carving knife to cut off a piece of his tunic. He then wrapped the cloth around Runa's leg to stop the blood flow at least a little bit.
With the amounts of blood she was losing that brute must have severed an artery.
"Runa, try to stay calm, okay? I promise we'll find a way out of here!"
The Blangonga didn't wait any longer for its next attack.
It rammed its arms deep under the snow, only to shove them back up again with great force. That way it formed a giant ball of snow that threatened to bury the three Hunters underneath.
Their icy grave was about to crush them; before Donniel intervened. He jumped in front the projectile and blocked it at the last moment.
He was breathing heavily and went down on his knees, still holding up the shield.
"Brandon..." he grunted, "We can't keep this up for much longer..."
The desperate team leader reached into his pouch to grab the flash bomb he'd reserved for an emergency. Then he carefully let go of Runa and stood up.
"We're running out of options here..." he whispered to himself.
He activated the small capsule and threw it at the Blangonga. The casing busted open and briefly lit the area in a bright light.
The Hunters opened their eyes, hoping they'd bought themselves some time.
But much to their dismay, they saw that the monster avoided the flash by covering its remaining eye with its arm.
"Are you fucking kidding me..?" Donniel was completely taken aback, "Now it's learning from us?!"
