Part 3
Two weeks had passed since Meg's enchantment. She and Guy met every evening at Matilda's cottage. They were getting to know each other well and liking what they were finding.
Meg found out from Matilda that Guy could be far from an angel; but she was coming to the conclusion that tasting the sweet with this man would make the sour well worth enduring.
During the day Guy kept up a pretense of still searching for Meg. After a week in Nottingham Harold Bennett had needed to go back to Worksop to continue with his business.
Guy had promised him not to give up on Meg; until either he found her safe and well or got his hands on evidence of what had happened to her.

More weeks went by until it was two months since Davina had cast her fateful spell
on Meg.
Guy was as certain as he ever could be that he'd fallen in love with his adorable friend.
It had never felt like this with Marian; the sense of belonging and completion when they were together.
With Marian he had given so much emotionally and received little in return. With Meg there was as much give as there was take.
Tonight , he planned to ask her to marry him at last.
Feeling unbelievably nervous he arrived at Matilda's hut as the sky was darkening.
Meg's face lit up with joy. She ran to hug him in greeting and his heart soared.
He presented Matilda with a bottle of wine from his cellar at Locksley.
“ Oh I say this is very special stuff, “ she remarked; “ are we celebrating something Lad ? “
Guy looked bashful and the effect was highly endearing. “ I hope so, “ he said quietly and asked Meg to come outside with him.
Matilda smiled privately. She'd suspected that the wind had been blowing this way for the past week or so.
Guy led Meg to the edge of Matilda's clearing and pulled up a log for them both to sit on. He took hold of her hands and kissed them reverently.
Her lips curled up in a secret smile that suggested she knew just what he was going to ask her. She said nothing though just sat and waited for a nervous Guy to gather his thoughts.
“ That first night when we were introduced I felt so strongly that there could be something between us.
When Matilda said that only the love and commitment of your soul mate could free you from this spell; I wanted it to be me so very much.
Now we've got to know each other and I hope become friends; I find that I want to be with you more than I want anything else.
I thought once that power, riches and status were satisfying enough goals to aim for;
but no longer.
All that Vasey and Prince John are offering feels sordid and dirty. Not surprising really considering what they've wanted of me in return.
I want a new life now. A life where I work to keep my family without tarnishing my soul at every term; and I'd like my family to start again with you.
