Snow was falling on the roofs of the Lycée de l'Authie, in Doullens.
It is December 17, 1954, and we are approaching Christmas.
The students, overexcited at the idea of receiving their Christmas gifts, can no longer sit still. Like every year, the Christmas meal takes place in the cafeteria, and as every year, Yves Daissandant, 53 years old and high school chef, always prepares a new recipe for Christmas Eve soup. His little dishes were without exception, all delicious. No one complained about his gastronomy; except maybe the students.
Why ? You will tell me. In fact, the students and Yves have only one difference: the study certificate. Yves didn't get it. And it is because of this that the students spoil his work: battle for food, useless waste, insults towards his cooking punctuated his daily life. Every day he returned home, exhausted, wondering if he could still do his job the next day.
Later that day, Yves is summoned to the director's office. This latter offers him a good idea to bring the students together, and him: to encourage them to participate in the creation of Christmas Eve soup. Yves thought it was a great idea, he was delighted. He said to himself that even if you don't have a study certificate, you can still flourish in your job.
The same day, but at the end of a rainy afternoon, the students went to the chef Daissandant's kitchen. Knowing their bad temper, Yves told himself that he had to ensure and show himself in his best light to convince the students to participate in the making of Christmas Eve soup.
The students, bored after five minutes, started wanting to get out of the high school to go home. But Yves does not let himself be done. He decides to be a little more authoritarian, but it does not abandon the collaborative creation of the soup. Carrots, leeks, potatoes, pumpkins, eggplants... All vegetables that the students liked end up in the cauldron.
After having cooked the dish well, the pupils can taste their own soup. Yves made them taste the latter with a ladle. And, by what he assumed arrogantly, the students said he found her gross. Yves started to get angry, and he became so red that he lost control of his body and spilled soup on him. The students laughed and made fun of him.
