Chapter 2
The sounds of the waves rang through Iris’s ears and coursed through her body, soothing her. She heard the door slam shut bringing her out of her trance. She heard her father’s voice telling her to come downstairs.
She brushed her bright blue hair from her face, making herself look ‘presentable’. She got up from her soft chair and started down the stairs.
“Yes, Father?” She asked, her green and blue eyes meeting his. “I have some good news for you Iris.” He said in his usual monotone voice. “Which is?” She asked genuinely curious. “That boarding school I was talking about, they accepted you because of your exceptional grades! You have a flight booked at 8:00 am tomorrow.” He stated slightly excited. “What!?” Iris shouted. “I told you I didn’t want to go to the boarding school, Dad!”
“The matter of want and need, dear, are completely different. You have no say in this. You are going.” Her father, Alexander Raven, stated firmly. “Understood?” He added giving her a look sending shivers down her spine. “Yes, Father.” She said and started back up the stairs to pack.
The drive to the airport that morning was silent, tense, and bleek.
When they arrived at the airport the driver helped her out of the limo. She kissed her brother’s cheek, gave her father a ‘look’ and walked off.
