Hi guys!

This is my first work. Hope y'all will like it.

I won't hold you up much longer.

So here it is!

^_^
----------------------------------------------
I don't want to punch anybody. Its not proper to do so. Thank God I was born a pacifist.

"Honey? Are you okay?"

My eyes started to water at the very sound of that voice. That mellifluous voice soothed every tense muscle I possessed and gave me newfound energy.

"Mom." I respond with a feeble attempt to make my voice jovial. "No. I mean yes. Yes I'm okay." I release the door knob and inhaled deeply. I faced my mother, wielding the most convincing and carefree smile I could muster. She had to have the eyes of an eagle. I just walked in and I doubted that she even saw my face but she already figured out that something with me's off.

"Uh-huh. Yeah. Right. Tell me." She tossed her damp towelette onto the breakfast counter and turned to me.

"Tell you what?" I shrugged.

"About what happened. Something happened. What is it, Kendra?" The shrill voices of the entire school instantly echoed in my head. I bit the inside of the cheek and shook my head. I forced a laugh.

"Just because I came home with a crease on my forehead, doesn't mean that something's up, Mom." I took off my backpack, held the straps with my left hand and planted a kiss on her cheek.

"Well—yes but this isn't like you, Ken. To come home without surprising me with a loud 'I'm home!' greeting."

I laughed. "Mom. When I become a stuck-up, know-it-all college student at Standford, you'll be missing the thunderous noises of my feet and my laugh that sounds like a dying seal. So I thought that maybe you'd start getting used to it."

"Oh. I see. Okay then." She replied with a flat tone and turns her back on me.

"Mom!" I chased her to the kitchen and hugged her from behind. I leaned down and rubbed my forehead on her shoulder. "Stop being so sensitive. I was just kidding! I'm just tired from school that's all."

"Mm-hmm. Alright you got me." She turned around and squeezed my nose. "If you weren't so cute I would've let you starve. But since you are, eat." She spun me around and I locked eyes with the table topped with steamed fish, steaks, rice and sliced fruit. The smell of each dish blended smoothly together and seductively caressed my nose. I sniffed some more and let out a heavy sigh. My Mom has got to be the best cook in the world. I swear.

"This is a feast, Mom. Is the queen coming?"

"Uh no. You're father is. He's bringing his boss and a couple of board members over here for a meeting or something."

"In our house?"

She nodded her head. "So you better wash up. You wouldn't want them to smell your sweat now would you?"

I sniffed my armpits. Boy. I really reek. "I think I'll skip dinner tonight, Mom. I'm not feeling too good."

"Are you hurt? Fever?" She automatically switched to nurse-mode and frantically placed her palm on my forehead.

"No. I'm just drained, Mom. Besides, I ate at school." I held her palm on my hands and kissed her again on the cheek. "Good night, Mom and good luck!" I smiled back at her and waved before I climbed upstairs. I walked as fast as I could so that she couldn't call out to me.

I don't want her to get involved at whatever I was. The least I wanted her to do is worry for me. She has a lot of heavy stuff to face every single day and I don't want her to spend time over me. This is my fight and I wanted her to be protected from it.
