The emotion in the back of her throat was becoming almost impossible to hold. A sob would make some of it go away, but that would also make the tears she was trying to keep at bay flow freely. That is why she now found herself in the position she currently was in. Sitting on the bed, with her hands on her lap and trying to keep her breathing steady as possible.
She could feel the familiar sting of tears started gathering in the corner of her eyes, she could not blink them away because that would for sure make them fall, so she did the next best thing and looked up to the ceiling hoping they would return to the place they came from.
It was of no use and they finally started to fall.
She clutched her hands digging her nails into her palms, hoping her body would focus on anything other than the ache in her chest.
"I don't think we should do this anymore"
She couldn't believe she had uttered those words to Karlie. And if she was being honest, she couldn't really believe the discussion that followed after.
"What do you mean?"
In a way she kept telling herself that she had not blindsided Karlie entirely, kept telling herself that it had been a matter of time, that they were a ticking time bomb. Yet, she knew from the look on her girlfriend's face that she was probably the only one with those negative thoughts.
"Us, I don't think we should be together anymore"
"Tay..."
"No, hear me out. Love shouldn't be this hard, we can't keep trying to pretend it's okay when it's not" She turned off the TV and fully faced Karlie on the couch.
"We are not pretending, love; we really are okay"
"We are not Karl. We are both living a constant lie, a lie that regardless of us trying to pretend it doesn't hurt, keeps putting a dent in our relationship"
"Babe, you are just having a rough day. Let's just go to bed, you will cool off after some rest"
"I don't think I will"
"Taylor, think about what you are going to say next. Don't do something we will both regret in the morning" the warning tone she used went unheard.
"Aren't you tired? We keep hurting each other each day we don't acknowledge what we mean to one another"
This train of thought had been bothering Taylor all week after a particularly almost gone wrong interview. An interview where she had to state, yet again, that she was as single as it could be.
"I am tired, but I also know what would happen if we were to publicly admit to our relationship"
"When are we going to be ready? How long has it been since we started dating and we are still not ready, on the contrary, we are not even allowed to be seen in public anymore"
"That was not my doing and you know it" the words came out harsher than intended, but the emotion was getting a hold of Karlie.
Taylor knew it was all her fault, the hiding and pretending they were not anything other than friends. She had been naïve for thinking it was going to be enough for both of them, naïve enough to hope it would all work out in the end.
She got up from the couch and knelt in front of Karlie, taking both of her hands in her own.
"You are the love of my life; I have known this from the start. That is the reason why I can no longer do this. You deserve the world Karlie Kloss; you deserve someone who will proudly walk hand in hand with you on the street, someone who can be there in all the important moments of your life, someone who can yell from the rooftops how in love with you they are. You deserve better than me"
