"Seriously?" was all Spizzo could say.
"I mean, if you don't wanna keep going..." Jacob replied, shrugging as he placed his empty bowl onto the coffee table.
"Yeah nah yeah, I do," Spizzo cut in quickly. "I just... let's not take it too seriously now and just have some fun with it."
Jacob smiled at the suggestion. "Sounds good."
"Glad you said that," Spizzo smiled in return before making his choice. "Because... I am going with..."
As the other teen stretch out his announcement, Jacob realised the mistake he'd made. "Oh shit, don't James, no."
But it was too late. Spizzo had made his choice. "Double. Dog. Dare."
"Fuuuck," Jacob said under his breath quietly. Of course it was. They just couldn't have nice things. Spizzo always had to come in and ruin the moment.
He began to whine but the other teen told him to zip it. "It's nothing serious, Jacob, let's just have fun with it, like we said."
Jacob sighed, resigning himself to the fact that this was just part of the game, as much as he didn't like it. Double dog dares were here to stay. "Well then, I guess I have to pick something."
"There we go, Jakey, getting into the spirit of it!" Spizzo grinned, choosing to ignore the other teen's grimace in return. He wasn't sure what his problem was the option, seeming to hate it so much each time. But just like with Spizzo when they first met, Jacob would grow to love it.
Jacob racked his brain for an idea, not particularly wanting to get up for the dare. The tabby in his lap was enjoying the scratches too much for him to end it now over a stupid double dog dare. "How about..." he began, stretching it out as he tried to decide. "We..."
"Oh my god, just spit it out," Spizzo groaned. This was supposed to be a fun choice but the other teen was making it anything but. Jacob mimicked him sarcastically in return.
"How about we what?" prompted Spizzo when Jacob didn't finish his thought.
"How about we..." the other teen began again, purposely trying to get under Spizzo's skin. "... text our crushes and tell them our feelings."
"Lame," Spizzo replied, blowing a raspberry at the idea. "I don't even have a crush anyway."
"Someone you wanna fuck then," Jacob reasoned, knowing the other teen couldn't deny that. From his own account, Spizzo was a horned up teen who sadly had a poor, unfortunate victim in his sights. "I'm sure Teresa would like to hear from you."
Spizzo laughed at Jacob's suggestion. "Fair point there, man. I'm sure she'd love to get a piece of this," he said, grabbing at his crotch as he bit his bottom lip and scrunched his face.
Jacob made retching noises at the sight, exclaiming, "stop that right now!"
But Spizzo continued on, retorting with a laugh, "you're gay, aren't you?"
"Gay with standards," was the other teen's reply, placing his free hand over the cat's eyes to save its modesty. The poor thing didn't need to see that and be scarred like he had.
"Who are you gonna text then, huh?" Spizzo asked after letting go of himself.
Jacob shrugged, knowing that there was only one person he could text right now that wouldn't even question the text. A friend who loved to joke about as they pretended to flirt with each other all the time - even though he was as straight as an arrow (as far as Jacob knew anyway). "Grant."
"Grant?" Spizzo echoed with slight confusion. He was surprised to hear that Jacob was crushing on someone (else) after the truth they had an hour or so earlier. "Is he a queer like you too?"
"Guess we'll find out," was Jacob's reply as he grabbed his mobile from out of his pocket. As he wrote out his message, he added, "also, you should probably stop saying 'a queer'. Gay is fine," before holding out his phone to show Spizzo what he'd typed out and sent.
Hey Grant, the message read. I know this may seem right out of the blue but there is a secret that I have been harbouring for too long... I must tell you now or the weight of it will cause me to sink... I like you... and I hope you like me too...
Jacob knew the melodrama of the text and the excessive use of the ellipses would tell Grant that it was a joke. Spizzo on the other hand, seemed to miss the memo as he read the message. "Wow, really trying to convince him, aren't ya?"
"Totally," Jacob replied flatly, trying not to sound sarcastic. If he could get away with Spizzo sending an embarrassing message to his crush (or someone he wanted to mess around with), he'd count this double dog dare as a victory. He watched in anticipation as the other teen pulled out his mobile and began typing away.
After a minute or so of tying, Spizzo looked up to make eye contact with Jacob. "Sent."
Jacob's breath hitched ever so slightly as he heard his mobile ding a second or so later.
