The bus stop. At my first day at my new school. Jefferson County Middle School. Which meant that anything can happen today. Both good and bad. Yes, both good and bad. Hopefully I'll be able to survive anything it throws at me.

"You new here?" One of the kids at the bus stop asked looking at me.

I turned towards him. Him being an african american kid looking at me intently. "Y-y-yeah. You could say that."

"You may want to step to the side if you want to live!" Another kid yelled at me.

What the hell is that for?

"Don't mind them. They just don't want you in the way of Murphy's law." The boy told them.

"Murphy's Law?"

"Yeah, it's this weird thing that occurs with my best friend, Milo. Milo Murphy. Where anything that can go wrong, does go wrong. They just don't want you in the splatter zone. Oh, hi Melissa."

A pretty girl with orangey hair appeared beside me. "Hey, Zack. Who's this?" She pointed at me.

"Oh, I knew I was forgetting something." The boy, Zack, said slapping his forehead.

"I'm [Y/N]. I'm new, obviously." I told the both of them.

"Cool. So, yeah, when our friend Milo gets here, you might want to take a step back if you don't want to be a victim to Murphy's Law." the girl, melissa, said.

"Murphy's Law?" I asked turning to them.

"Yeah, Murphy's Law. It's where anything that can go wrong does go wrong. It follows our best friend, Milo, everywhere he goes. Sort of like a curse. But it's so much more fun and exciting than you would think." Zack explained.

"I've dealt with many fun and exciting things in my life." I told them.

"Not like this." Melissa said.

Why did I think she was challenging me?

"Oh, look, here he comes." the other kids at the stop chorosed not farther away from the three of us.

A boy with slicked up brown hair wearing a sweater vest and brown trousers was walking up to us in his red vans. "Hey, guys who's the new girl?"

"This is [Y/N]. She's new. [Y/N], this is Milo." Zack said introducing me to his friend.

"You might want to get out of the way." Milo told me.

I saw Zack give him a weird look out of the corner of my eye before he grabbed my sleeve and pulled me over with him to closer to Melissa and Milo. And then a cement roll rolled on past us. Wait. Is he a jinx or some kind of psychic?
