Sunday 3:30am
My eyes hurt but I can't blink. I've been staring at the blue and red flashing lights on top of the cop car for so long that it just looks like one consistent white light. My head is pounding, probably from the alcohol. Everything is muffled, there are so many sounds happening around me but I only hear them at half volume, maybe less. What happened? And how did it happen? My brain is flashing images of things I can't be certain I really saw.
Fast movement out of the corner of my eye forces me to look away from the lights and that's when I see her; Mrs. Taylor, coming right towards me, frantically. Her mouth is moving but I can't hear her until she's directly in my face, inches away. "Who's house is this?" She's yelling over and over again. There are so many things I need to say to her but all that comes out is "it was an accident" over and over again. She keeps talking but I can't hear her over the sound of my voice through my half-working ears. A few seconds go by of us talking over one another before Mr. Taylor catches up and pulls her away from me. I glance at him but he doesn't look towards me. His face is full of pain, I think he's crying. I've known the Taylor's practically my whole life and I've never seen Bruce Taylor cry, even at his mother's funeral. He's always been a pillar of strength in his family and for me.
What happened? I heard myself saying it was an accident but do I know that for a fact? I didn't see Olivia for a couple of hours until I saw her motionless, floating in the pool. Who was she with? They'll know what happened to her.
