Chapter 6

6: The truth

Deepika and her parents were talking. Ranveer was sitting beside Deepika. Not very close. They were talking about world affairs when suddenly, a very uncomfortable topic came. "So, is there any news of us becoming grandparents?" Prakash said. Deepika nervously laughed.

Ujala understood her daughter's discomfort and changed the topic. Soon, they left. Deepika was at the living room, watching TV when Ranveer's phone rang, it was outside since he had left it there. It was Ranbir. Deepika picks for up. "Hey bro" he said. "Sorry Ranbir, it's me Deepika. Ranveer is bathing" she said.

"Oh, Ok could you ask him to call me back later?" "Sure" Deepika cut the phone and continued watching TV. Soon, the doorbell rang. Deepika went and opened the door. It was Vikas, her old friend. "Vik?" "Deepika, I have to tell you something" she nodded and allowed him to sit on the couch.

"First of all, congrats on your wedding... Second of all remember the picture I showed you of Ranveer, kissing another girl?" he said with hesitance. "How can I forget that picture, it broke my heart." Deepika said, with unshed tears. "ok, so.... I'm that picture... It.... It... Was.... Fake" Deepika's heart stopped. Her breathing became shallow.

"What?" she asked, in a very soft voice. "look, I am sorry. But it was fake. Deepika I knew you for so many years. We were only friends. But what you did not know was I loved you. When you broke the news about dating Ranveer, I was furious and hurt. So, after two years, I could not take it. I edited a picture of him kissing a girl and showed it to you. I am sorry." Deepika immediately slapped him.

How could he do that. She trusted him and he took the love of her life away from her for three years. Three freaking years. She ached for the closeness because of that stupid picture. That picture tore her apart. Deepika just pointed her finger to the door indicating for Vikas to get out. He followed by going away...

Deepika sat down, thinking. And waiting. She had to apologise to Ranveer. She hurt him. A lot. She left him. She did not trust him enough to know that the picture was fake. She did not even hear him out that day. All the regrets coming back. She should have stayed. She waited for him to come.

She just sat there crying. She had made him a quiet guy. He was not her Ranveer. Her Ranveer was loud, and idiot and a clown. He use to make her laugh with his goofieness, but now, he was no more like that. He was a different man. And she was responsible for that. Finally, he was done showering.

He changes and came out to see her in tears. It pierced his heart bit he had to keep distance. The next thing he knew, she was hugging him ever so tightly.
