JACQUELINE THINDREL has always been lost, completely unfamiliar with the feeling of belonging— of having a home. However, her life isn't entirely empty. As long as she could remember, she's always had her brother MAX and best friend GINA by her side. They were the only ones she could rely on. At least, that's what she told herself. And so, Jacqueline always believed she'd live through life without needing anything more.
However, things turn for the worst when the sudden death of their mother forces the Thindrel siblings to leave their home in Alaska. With nothing more than a few belongings, the two move to a small reservation with THE WAYAS, strange relatives with skeletons in their closet. Feeling like a fish out of water, Jacqueline starts to count down the days until she turns eighteen so that she and Max can move back home where they belong.
Things become more complicated for Jacqueline when PAUL LAHOTE, a hothead who doesn't seem to own a shirt, integrates himself into her life. Suddenly, she finds herself caring for someone that isn't Max or Gina, and she's forced to reconsider her plans of leaving. Then, for the first time in her life, Jacqueline has to learn who she is without her brother and best friend, much to their extreme distaste. Still, with Paul at her side, this doesn't seem like such a scary thing. In fact, it feels comforting.
Though she doesn't know what this new life will reveal, Jacqueline begins to believe that it will lead her to a place where she belongs. A place where she'll finally feel at home . . .
