"Is she dead?"
"I don't know."
"Well, she's not really breathing."
Mothpelt coughed and water dribbled from her mouth. Opening her eyes she saw two cats leaning over her. Her eyes no more than slits she mewed, "Is this Starclan?"
The two strange cats laughed. "I don't know what you're blabbering about."
A russet tom spoke and he looked to his companion. So, I'm not dead. Thank Starclan!
Mothpelt's limbs hurt and she tried to stand. "Woah there." The dark brown tabby tom stood next to her to support her. Mothpelt almost collapsed but the other tom supported her other side. Mothpelt's fur was matted and wet.
She then realized they were in twoleg place. Her vision was still blurred from the water but she could make out the twoleg dens and the thunderpath in front of them. "Let's get her somewhere safe." The tabby meowed. "Yeah like I was gonna stand here all day," the russet tom retorted.
The two toms walked Mothpelt into what looked like an abandoned old twoleg den. It's walls were almost torn apart and it was quite small, unlike other twoleg dens.
"We're too close to The Band for my liking." The russet tom meowed as they lowered Mothpelt down. She collapsed on her side. Her pelt was still drenched and clung to her sides, making her look scrawny. "Well do you want me to take her near twolegs?"
The russet tom snorted at the reply. Mothpelt heaved herself up so she could sit. She wobbled but caught her balance. Moth toms stared at her for a moment. Then the russet tom meowed first, "My names Branch." The other tom nodded, "And I'm Timber."
Mothpelt coughed before replying with, "I'm Mothpelt."
"Strange name." Timber commented. As Mothpelt studied the two toms she saw that Branch was greying on his muzzle, making it a few years between the two.
"Well, I came from Thunderclan. I was their medicine cat." Mothpelt sighed. It had been so long ago since she had been exiled by Whitestar. She always wondered if Whitestar realized he was exiling Thunderclan's only medicine cat.
"Thunderclan... Oh, I've heard of that!" Branch's eyes lit up as he remembered. "I heard stories about it and the other clans. I've always wanted to see them. Or strangely join a clan."
Timber tipped his head questionably, "Why join a clan when you can live your life as a loner?"
"Well I wouldn't be alone and it would be like a big team." Timber scoffed, "What about me?"
Mothpelt shook her head slightly with amusement as the two toms talked. Her stomach rumbled and Timber pricked his ears at the sound. "I'll go hunt." He said, finishing his conversation with Branch.
Mothpelt felt drowsy and her body ached from the river but she forced herself to stay awake. "So what was it like in Thunderclan?" Branch looked to Mothpelt. He looked as excited as a kit listening to nursery tales.
"It's been a while. I was the medicine cat there. I would care for my clanmates when they were hurt."
Branch nodded and waited for her to continue. "It was fun. As a kit, I would love to run around and play with my littermates. I also loved to learn herbs and I knew my destiny was to be a medicine cat."
Mothpelt purred as she recalled memories. "Well it seems like living in a clan is actually fun." Branch meowed.
"It was," Mothpelt mewed, "Until I was exiled."
Branch's expression changed, "Oh?"
"Medicine cats aren't meant to have a mate or kits. But I had kits with a Shadowclan warrior and broke the warrior and medicine code. So I had to leave." Mothpelt explained to him. Branch surprisingly understood what she was saying.
"What's your backstory?" Mothpelt asked Branch. She didn't want to talk about Thunderclan anymore. It was good to look back though it was hard for her.
Branch just shrugged, "I've been a loner all my life really. My littermates and I split up and I've just been roaming the twoleg place and forest."
A rumble could be heard outside the old den and Mothpelt realized it was a monster. She hadn't heard one for ages, so as it went past her eyes widened and she bristled. Branch just laughed as Mothpelt tried to flatten her fur.
"Anyway, I met Timber when he was being taken away from twolegs. I helped him escape and we've stuck together ever since. Though he can be a bit annoying."
"Annoying am I?"
Mothpelt saw Timber at the entrance with two scrawny mice. He purred as he dropped them at Mothpelt's paws. "Well, you can be sometimes," Branch told Timber.
"Wow." Timber rolled his eyes with a laugh before saying, "That's all I could find. The fire really did wipe out a lot of prey."
"We've already eaten not long ago," Branch informed her. Mothpelt quickly ate the two mice. She didn't realize how hungry she was.
Mothpelt yawned, her body ached from the river and without warning, she curled up into a ball. Forgetting about the others next to the river, Mothpelt fell asleep.
Sorry for a pretty boring chapter. I realized how a lot of my chapters are fast-paced and how I have A LOT of time skips. I'm trying to find ways to stretch out my story. So adding in a piece of Mothpelt finding new friends and talking about her past seems to give the story more of a stretch so it's not so short.
That probably didn't make sense but oh well. Have a great day! =)
