Chapter 4

It all blew up. That's the only way Peyton could describe it. It started with Fury walking in, finally having realized his system was being hacked.

"What are you doing, Stark?" he asked.

"Uh, kind of been wondering the same thing about you," Tony replied.

"You're supposed to be working on finding the tesseract." Fury stated.

"We are. The model's locked and we're sweeping for the signature now. When we get a hit, we'll have the location within half a mile." Bruce replied. Tony looked up at his monitor, then to Fury.

"What's phase two?" he asked. Before Fury could reply, Steve stormed in, dropping a large weapon on a table.

"Phase two is SHIELD uses the cube to make weapons," he said, he looked to Tony, "Sorry, computer was moving a little too slow for me," he said. Peyton smirked. There we go cap.

"Rogers, we gathered everything related to the Tesseract. This does not mean that we're-" Tony cut Fury off.

"I'm sorry, Nick," he said moving the monitor to show weapon blueprints, "What, were you lying?" he asked.

"I was wrong director, the world hasn't changed a bit," Steve said. At that same moment Natasha and Thor came in, Peyton took a few steps back and bit her lower lip. Whatever was about to happen needed to happen, she couldn't interfere, but God, did she want too.

"Did you know about this?" Bruce asked, looking at Natasha, there was a fire in his eyes that set Peyton on edge.

"You wanna think about removing yourself from this situation, doctor?" Natasha asked.

"I was in Calcutta, I was pretty well removed," he snapped.

"Loki's manipulating you," Natasha said.

"And what exactly are you doing?" he asked.

"You didn't come here just because I bat my eyelashes at you," she replied.

"Yes, and I'm not leaving because suddenly you get a little twitchy. I'd like to know why SHIELD is using the Tesseract to build weapons of mass destruction." he said. Fury pointed to Thor.

"Because of him," he said.

"Me?" Thor asked, confused.

"Last year earth had a visitor from another planet who had a grudge match that leveled a small town. We learned that not only are we not alone, but we are hopelessly, hilariously, outgunned." Fury said.

"My people want nothing but peace with your planet." Thor said.

"But you're not the only people out there, are you? And, you're not the only threat. The world's filling up with people who can't be matched, they can't be controlled." Fury said.

"Like you controlled the cube?" Steve asked.

"You're work with the Tesseract is what drew Loki to it, and his allies. It is the signal to all the realms that the earth is ready for a higher form of war." Thor said.

"A higher form?" Steve asked.

"You forced our hand. We had to come up with something." Fury said,

"Nuclear deterrent. 'Cause that always calms everything right down." Tony said.

"Remind me again how you made your fortune, Stark?" Fury bit out.

"I'm sure if he still made weapons, Stark would be neck deep." Steve said.

"Wait! Wait! Hold on! How is this now about me?" Tony asked.
