FOUR || Why?

I was lying on the floor next to the sofa. I'd decided that the floor was more comfy  when I wasn't trying to sleep.

"<Lead,>" I noticed that Varnier had strolled into the room. "<The Kell says you've defiantly earned your privileges as Captain back.>"

I glanced at him, confused that it was that quick.

"<You did kill two Lightbearers. We can clearly trust you again.>" Varnier seemed to catch onto my confusion, so I stood up. "<We should go then.>" I said, looking at Varnier. Maple hovered over my shoulder, confused. "What...?" He asked. "Nothing." I answered, following Varnier out the room.

I stood in front of the Kell, who was leaning down slightly to look at me. "<You've earned it, Lead.>" His words came out in a snarl.

I bowed. "<Thank you, my Kell.>" Though my words were clear and strong, I was forcing myself not to shake.

The Kell nodded. "<Take this. It's proof of your new rank, Captain.>"

I looked up and he handed my a cloak. It was worn and torn, but I took it gratefully. "<It's your old cloak from when you were an Archon. Varnier managed to retrieve it from you after you'd died.>"

I looked at the cloak. It was a dull shade of orange, though I believed it had to have been brighter before, with a white fire symbol in the middle and fur around the neck. I was honestly shocked it hadn't fallen apart. "<I will wear it with pride.>" I eventually said, looking at the Kell, who nodded. "<As you should. You may go now.>"

I nodded, then paused. "<May I ask you something first?>"

"<Hm? Go on, Lead. I'm listening.>"

"<What was my relationship with Varnier like?>"

The Kell tilted his head. "<You and Varnier? You two were good friends. In fact, he was your first friend when you joined the House. He was just a Dreg then. He fought well, so we promoted him to a Vandal, and allowed him to grow his arms back. You were... Proud? If that's the word for it. Eventually he became a Captain, and so did you along side him. We had two Archons for a while, you and Varnier.>" The Kell paused, and I just stood and listened.

"<Then it happened. The Outbreak. The House was working hard to fight off Hive, but they had fought through our few guards left, and three Knights had made it to this exact room. You were the only one here at the time, aside from two Servitors. You and one of the Servitors fought off two of the Knights, and you just managed to take out the last one while me and the other Servitor hid, but...>" He paused again, his gaze flicking around the room, then, back to me.

"<You were too badly wounded for us to help you. You died due to blood loss. Everyone was devastated. This House was still newer at that point and... we'd never lost an Archon before then. >" He looked like he was hesitating. "<Varnier was the worst, though. He didn't leave where you'd died for a month. He was... broken. We had to survive like we'd lost him, too.>"

The Kell stopped. "<And that's it, you may leave now.>"

I nodded. "<Thank you, my Kell. I am sure I'll be back.>" I turned and left after bowing.

This part was a bit short but... Lots of backstory! Also, I'd like to note, this is an original Fallen House I made, House of Embers. Non of the stuff in this book in cannon in Destiny 1 or 2 lore. Thanks for reading so far!
