The Kell glared at me. "<The House has never trusted Lightbearers like you. You will have to earn back your place, Lead.>"
It's reasonable. I honestly expected this. I look up at him, then bow. "<I shall.>"
"<Varnier,>" He turned his head slightly to face the Archon. "<Place her with the Vandals. I trust her well enough, but she'll have to earn her rank as a Captain again.>"
Varnier nodded. "<I'm sure she will.>"
The Kell dismissed me and Varnier, and we headed out of the room. That went better than planned. I didn't end up saying it out loud. Instead, I looked up at Varnier, who was watching a group of Dregs. He suddenly turned and looked at me. "<I could basically feel you staring at me there.>" he didn't sound angry, but jerked backwards slightly. "<S-Sorry..>" I shook my head slowly, looking down. Varnier huffed slightly and then patted my head gently. "<You're fine.>"It had been a day since I'd joined the House, and Varnier was keeping me in the same room as him as the other Vandals didn't seem very happy to share theirs with me. "<How can we trust her that much?>" One of them had snarled, glaring straight at me. "<I certainly don't trust her enough.>"
Varnier had been holding me by the shoulder the entire time in case one of them tried something.
Varnier only had one bed in the room, so he gave me two options of either the floor, or the sofa near the door. I chose to sofa. It may be dusty and kind of... broken, but it was better than the stone floor. The way Varnier has asked though, it sounded like he was going to add another option, but he didn't. I was laying on the sofa, staring up at the ceiling. I'd taken my armour off and was just wearing a black t-shirt with grey shorts, basically what I used as sleepwear at this point, and what I usually wear under my armour. Varnier suddenly strolled into the room, making me jolt out of my thoughts and flick my gaze to the door. "<Oh, hi Lead. I thought you'd be up already. Did I wake you?>" He tilted his head, obviously concerned. "<No, I was just... thinking.>" I mumbled. Varnier strolled over and sat on the sofa at my feet, looking at me.
I sat myself up, and shuffled so I was sat next to him. Varnier smiled slightly, and I suddenly felt the urge to just... lean against his side? It felt like it was something I'd done before. So I did. I rested my head on his side and kind of flopped against him. Varnier widened his eyes slightly and looked down at me, then smiled and pat me on the head with one of his secondary arms.
"<I've been told to tell you that you have a patrol today.>" Varnier said suddenly, looking at the door, which remained open. "<Oh really? I should get up, then.>" I glanced at the door too, then readjusted myself so I wasn't leaning on Varnier anymore, and stood up, strolling out the door, but stopping and turning back to look at Varnier. "<Where is the patrol assigned, Varnier?>" I asked. "<If I remember what I was told correctly, it's just along the edge of our territory. You should head out now.>"
"<On it.>" I headed towards where I'd been assigned.Climbing over a rock, I remembered that this area was where I'd been revived by Maple. "Hm." I started humming a song to myself quietly as I strolled along the border, which was a sharp drop down into water. Looking away from the view, I spotted two Guardians. Crouching down so I was less visible, Is edges closer to look at them. "<A Titan and a Hunter.>" I mumbled to myself in Eliksni. Wait, I recognise them... who are they again...? I thought aggressively about what their names were, and suddenly, it clicked.
Peachi and Fera. My old 'Fireteam'.
I'd convinced them to let me join them, when I wasn't even a Guardian yet.
Peachi was a Solar Titan. She'd always used that hammer weirdly. Swung it around in a circle and flung herself at stuff.
Fera was a Void Hunter. Used those shadowy blades perfectly. I'd need to be careful, but I had a plan.
"Maple," I mumbled in English, as my Ghost still didn't know Eliksni. "I need you to send a message to the House. And only the House."
Maple nodded. "What about?"
"Call Varnier over. Tell him to bring others. I've got a plan."
I leaped down from the ledge, and strolled towards the two. Peachi instantly recognized me. "L-Lead? Is that you? We thought you'd died after you get exiled!"
Fera turned, and nodded, looking at Maple. "Maybe you did die. It doesn't matter. It's dangerous here. We're only here to look for a missing Guardian-" Fera paused.
They're sending Guardian's out to look for me? Wow, I feel so special.
"Wait, it must be you that the Vanguard was talking about!" Peachi looked overly happy. "C'mon, Lead. We need to get 'chu back." She turned and cocked her head to the side, looking over her shoulder at me. I nodded, still not speaking. Looking back up at the ledge, I noticed Varnier looking down at me, a panicked expression on his face. I nodded to him and then glared at Peachi, who was following quite a bit behind Fera silently. Fera was talking to her Ghost, so I took the chance and flung myself at Peachi, covering her mouth with a hand.
I spotted that she was charging Solar energy in her fists to attack me, and I quickly threw her to the floor. Her Ghost, Fern, appeared and went to heal her. Just before he managed, I saw an arc beam pierce through Fern's shell, and he fell to the floor. Fera is sure to notice that... I quickly ran off and jumped back up the ledge as the wave of Light nearly knocked Fera over and she flung around. I'm pretty sure she only saw my foot, which wasn't the best, but no one would believe her if she said it was me.
"<That was impressive.>" Varnier said as we climbed on top of a rusty old container. I heard Fera yowl and then foot steps running towards us. "<Thanks. I'll be fine here, you should probably go and hide.>" I mumbled, and Varnier nodded. "<You may only be a Vandal right now, but you'll always have the ideas of a Captain.>" He said as he turned and ran off. I turned to see Fera flinging herself at me, her body a shadow wielding two dark blades in her hands. Spectral Blades.
I tensed up, trying to look ready for the hit, but I was actually just charging my own Super. Fera hit me just as I flung myself into the air, and slammed down on top of her, the metal platform we were stood on basically absorbing the arc energy. Fera flung backwards, no longer in her Super, and hit the floor hard. Her eyes closed and her Ghost, Icicle, appeared just above her.
I smirked and walked over slowly to where Icicle was hovering. He turned and glared at me. "You're not worthy of being a Guardian." He snarled as I clenched my fists, ready to swing at him. "And neither are the Vanguard." I paused and remembered something, then continued.
"Or my brother."
