Joey and I arrived at the general’s office where we were joined by three other soldiers.
“Your late” the general said to us with a stone face.
“Sorry sir I was a bit hungry” I answered
“No excuses this is the armed forces not kindergarten, when you are expected somewhere at a pacific time you will arrive on time! Do you understand?!” he shouted, Joey stepped forward as if to argue but grabbed his shoulder and told him to step down and he backed off.
“Sorry sir won’t happen again” I answered respectively.
“It better not. NOW! On to business” He shouted “Joey, David meet your new subordinates” he pointed to the three already in the room, he pointed to one in particular “this is Cylia Underwood she is your communications officer, Cylia introduce your self.”
“I am Cylia Underwood, communications official I will be your go to for just about any and all information.” She said in a soft yet serious voice
“Very good now this here is Martin Johnson, your tactical officer, Martin introduce you self” The General informed.
“Martin Johnson here and I’m going to make sure you don’t die on the field” Martin said (by his tone I am guessing he is a kidder… were dead).
“Great, now this is Varineya Rose, demolitions officer, Varineya introduce your self”
“I am Varineya Rose Demolitions officer, I will make sure to get anything up and out of the way” She said with a slight British accent.
“Now these fine soldiers will provide assistance to you two, they to have been injected with void blood, so your skills will be evenly matched but, they have no idea who you two are so please, introduce yourself” the General asked us.
“Joey Campbell, heavy weapons specialist and for you guys to keep your lives I suggest you call me Joe”
“David Long, squad commander and field specialist.”
“Alright now that introductions are done I would like to explain your assignment, as you all know we are at war but now we have the upper hand with you five specialized soldiers, a battle is going on in our own continent of North America I need you five to enforce our ranks and make the Void bastards retreat back so we can reclaim and rebuild, as you all know the epicenter of this attack is on the west coast of Washington and spreading like wild fire pretty soon-”He was interrupted by Cylia
“How soon sir?”
“Why am I being interrupted!” He shouted
“Oh sorry I just thought that it would be helpful information to know that” Cylia said in defense.
He sighed, “About three months time” He said in a grim, foreboding tone.
“That’s no where near enough time to take back a losing battle!” I shouted
“And that’s where you guys come in. with your specially enhanced bodies you will be able to turn the tide in that time an-”
“There are only five of us! Five people can’t win a war!” I interrupted
“I will not tolerate this behavior, Mr. Long!” he shouted
“I will not tolerate the world on MY shoulders General!” I yelled back
“David!” Joey yelled from the corner of the room “Stop arguing so we can get on with our assignment!” I glared at the general and he glared back for at least 10 seconds then he opened his mouth.
“You five will be dropped from a verti-bird at 1500 feet into the frontlines of the warfare which will be in Colorado, your specialized bodies should be able to withstand the impact of the drop so you will not be injured. Before you all leave you will have to be fitted with custom armor allowing you to go in and out of your void-like forms once out-fitted you will have 2 hours to get your stuff together. Now go!” we all saluted and left the office a woman by the door to lead us to be outfitted.
