--Three years before--

Kirstin-

I watch Avi sing out of the corner of her eye, letting the low notes fill my ears with their muse. Having just won the sing - off,  I feel the happiest I've been in a very, very long time. Taking part has drained every ounce of energy out of me, but it's also brought me something that nothing else would have given : my confidence.

This victory song is like a previously unsung battle cry, one that's been slowly building up since this group first formed. I knew we were taking a completely different approach, but I had no clue it'd end us up with a record deal. I hum the last few notes as Scott stops singing, and eventually we finish. The crowd goes wild.

Tears fill my eyes again, at all the appreciation and emphasis in their fan's voices, and, even if I might (perhaps) be over jesticulating the situation, it feels like my whole life has been leading up to this moment.  I love it. I raise my hand and wave, one last final wave, and we exit center stage.

Soon, I'm heading towards the changing rooms, and the boys join me in one crazy parade down the corridor. They're shouting, and fist-bumping and high-fiving each other.

"Yess!" Scott shouts, spinning around in circles.

"Hey man, calm down." Kevin is laughing, and he has his arms around Mitch and Avi, a massive grin plastered on his face(one that hardly ever comes off). In fact, we're all smiling like lunatics.
"How'd you expect me to calm down! We've just won!" Scott shouts back, adressing it not just to Kevin but to the entire world.

"Our dreams have come true-"
"-but maybe it's just starting?"

"Crazy, isn't it!?" Mitch says, turning around to face me.

"Yeah... It is, kind of."

Avi remains quiet.

"Hey, you 'kay?" Kevin asks.

"Yeah... I just still can't believe we won..." He tips his head back to the ceiling, smiling into space.

After much more celebration, we turn and separate different ways. I head towards the women's change rooms, and the boys towards the men.

Nothing could possibly go wrong in this moment. Nothing would dare take me out of this sudden- yet hard worked & expected

I switch the television in the corner of the room on and start to get undressed, untangling myself from the sweaty stage clothes into something more comfortable. All the while, the news presenter goes on yaddering about politics & celebrities & films & world crisis --

"And finally, another update on the waking problem-- just a few days ago, a sighting of unusual superhuman behaviour was spotted in New York-"

"Yes Lois, but we must focus on the main question…are they heroes, like the avengers, or are they a menace?"

"I don't care," I muttered to myself, shoving my socks on. "I see no way that they could stop me singing, so-- they'll not be threat to the unstoppable Kirsty."

Smiling, I pull on my shoes, grab my bag & push open the door.

Yeah. The unstoppable Kirstie. Watch out, world.
