Avi:

I close the door behind me and start my long walk down to the Professor's office. We arrived late at night yesterday, and everything was dark, so seeing the institute in a different, more brighter light was a bit of a change. As I walked, I also noted the huge immenseness of this house and how I-- was lost.

Every turn I take  leads me into even more confusing corridors, and I'm about to give up when a girl turns the corner and runs straight into me... No through me. I stumble back, trying to steady myself, and the girl slows down and turns to face me. She looks confused.

"Hey! You're one of the new guys, right?" She asks. She's still wearing her pajamas, and her brown hair seems to tell me that this girl had only just gotten out of bed. Her face, however, told me that she was now fully awake and observant.

"What... You're...Oh my god! You're Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix, right?"

I nod slowly, trying to tell myself that I'll have to get used to other people's powers in the mutant world. But I've barely gotten used to my own stupid curse, so I'll probably struggle to see things straight. I reach behind me and tug one of my wings down, stroking my feathers-- if you could call them that-- with my thumb.

Meanwhile, the girl is shouting down the hallway.

"KURT! GET YOUR LAZY ASS OUT OF YOUR BEDROOM NOW!!"

A few seconds later, there was a loud noise (like some sort of vortex exploding), and a boy slightly older than the girl appears in front of me, in a cloud of dark smoke. It makes me cough, and my instant reaction is to shield my eyes. After a while, I open my eyes. The boy's expression looks slightly concerned-- and self-conscious.

"Was?" He speaks in a heavy German accent. The girl looks at him like she can't believe what he just said.

"LOOK!" She screams at him. He turns to me, his face momentarily working out who I could possibly be. Then it lights up.

"Oh wow! You're the guy Kitty's obsessed with! You're a mutant?"

"I- think so..."

'Kurt' stares at the great metal blades in my back.

"Awesome!"

We all stand awkwardly for a while. I hate awkward conversations.

"So…?" I ask, trying to talk. "Tell me about your powers...I mean, you don't have to. I just-" I look down at the floor in embarrassment.

"Well... I can teleport, like you just saw." Kurt disappeared through the loud noise again, and reappeared a few meters down the corridor.

"See!?" He shouts, before teleporting back again.

"-and Katherine can phase through things. Show him!"

We both turn to her. She looks at him in annoyance, folding her arms.

"DON'T EVER call me Katherine! It's kitty, okay!?" Rolling her eyes, she walks over to a vase and shoves her hand through it, like it isn't even there.

"Ew. Now my hands are wet."

"You can pass your hand through it?"

"Well, yeah. But, like, it's not just my hand you know!?"
Kurt glares at her. She glares back.
"I applause for her. She's always like this when she wakes up. She's normally in a good mood."

He flashes a grin at me and shrugs his shoulders. I smile back, awkwardly.

Kitty just keeps glaring at the both of us.

Kurt reaches out and flicks her forehead with his fingers. She grabs Kurt's arm, and they vanish together into the wall.

Kirstin :

I must have been out for some time.
I wake up to laughter outside of my window. I slowly walk over to the musty glass, pull back the curtains and peer out into what I think is the backyard of where ever I am. The sun is so bright that I have to blink a few times to get my eyes to adjust, and the cold, autumn air shifts through the leaves of browning trees, spiralling left and right like dancers in an ever-lasting dance.

A group of younger children crowd around Avi. He looks confused, but pleased to be met by smiles. They touch his wings, staring in wonder as they lift up and down, catching the sunlight. He sits down so he's at their height, and starts to talk to them. I watch as they laugh with him, Avi grinning whenever they ask a question. I find myself grinning too, and wanting to join them, to ask questions.

Maybe it isn't all bad here. I've hardly even been outside this room. As long as I have Avi to look after me, I'll be okay, right?
