Kirstin:

I quietly unlock the door of my temporary bedroom, and I tiptoe out into the hallway. My feet stick to the floor, making me almost silent. There's laughter and arguments and conversations going on in all the separate rooms, behind closed doors. They're muffled, but it gives me a sense of comfort. At least I'm not on my own.

This place looks like it jumped out of a painting from the 18th century. Deep coloured wallpaper and wooden arches, and landscapes of places unbeknown to me. I don't know where the heck i am, but I feel a lot calmer amongst the reds and the greens and the yellows.

I take a few more steps, glancing around me like a child at a fairground. It's similar to castles and mansions your family would take you to when you were younger, that either fascinated you or bored you. I personally-

"Miss Maldonado. I'm glad to see you're up."
A sudden voice sounds from everywhere, making me jump out of my skin. I spin around in confusion, trying to find the source of it. My eyes land on a man a few feet away, shadowed slightly by the doorway he just exited from. He sits in a rather unusual looking wheelchair. Like Avi's wings, they reflect the sun, and send it bursting around in small beams of multicolour.

"Who are you!? Where am I!?"

"I am professor Xavier. You're currently in my school for gifted and talented youngsters."
There's that voice again, filling the  air and echoing off the walls. Bewildered, I concentrate on the man in front of me.

"Who is that?" I ask.

"That is me. I am, much like you and your friend, a mutant. I'm Gifted in what you would call telepathy."
He has a kind voice. For now, I trust it. Just for now.
Slowly nodding, I look around again, letting the colours wash over me, calming me down. Telepathy, huh?

"Why... Why am I here!?"

"Because Kirstin. Because the world aren't quite ready for us yet. You are a mutant. I am a mutant. So is every single person in this building. Each of us have a unique power, some dangerous, and some what people would call... Interesting."

Suddenly, a door to my left bursts open. A young teenage girl comes running out. Well, stumbling out, more like. The side of the doorframe hits her on the elbow, and she briefly glances at it, like it offended her, before turning her attention back to us.

"Professor! You let Jamie go on a mission with Logan, and you didn't let me go? Jamie!?"

I turn to the professor. He looks like he'd rather be anywhere but here right now.

The girl crosses her arms and tries to look cross. It just makes her look adorable. I hold back my laughter, but I must have made some kind of noise because she finally notices me also standing there. She comes skipping up to me.

"Hey... I saw you on Television the other day. Kurt and Kitty wouldn't shut up about you the other day. You're in a singing group, right? A capella?"

"This, Miss Maldonado, is one of our students. She- has the ability to produce pyrotechnic energy plasmoids out of her hands an-"

"Basically what he's trying to say is that I can make fireworks..." The girl cuts in, showing Kirstie her hand. It's full of brightly-lit shapes of all shapes and sizes. Again, the colours render me speechless. I stare at them all breathlessly, so much that it makes her laugh.

"Well, those 'fireworks' can be quite powerful... With a small amount of training," The professor interrupts.

"If you're talking about the hole in the library window, it was courtesy of Summers, I promise... I think."

The professor shakes his head, but he's grinning. He indicates that she should go back to her room. The girl let's out an impatient groan, and starts to skip away, but not before turning back to me.

"I'm Jubilation Lee. Well, Jubilee. Nicknames are cooler."

And as soon as she had appeared, she was gone.

=======================================================

Avi:

This place is huge compared to the apartment I'm used to.

I wonder if Kevin's doing well. I hope he's not too worried. The news of the explosion would be all over the news by now.

"Do you want lunch?"

"Wha-... Katherine! You can't just jump out at me like that..."

She looked annoyed at me for a second before returning to her warm smile. She's completely different to the bedhead I met this morning.

"It's kitty. And yes I can jump out at you like that, because stairs are a pain in the neck. I prefer to phase through walls, if you really need to know."

I've figured that out. And how am I supposed to find breakfast in this place?

"You let kitty be your tour guide, of course."

"Huh?"

An older girl steps out from behind one of the pillars. She has neat, red hair and carries a textbook in her hand, flicking it's pages as she walks. She has an apple balanced on top of her head.

Man, I know this place is a school for mutants, but can people stop jumping out on me like that? And what's with the apple?

"You need to expect surprise within this mansion, Mr. Kaplan. There's plenty of it for everyone."

"How did y-" Oh. Surprises.
"You're telepathic. Like the professor."

"Yep, she is. Jean's one of the seniors here. It's freaky sometimes, but she's not the only one here who's telepathic."

"Professor Xavier..."

"...and Emma. And we think Betsy. And some of the students. Can I really be your tour guide?!"

"There's more of you?"

"You didn't answer my-"

"Well, yes... You see at the ins--"

"Can we please get some lunch? I'm starving."

My stomach growls at me. It's a reminder that I haven't eaten in absolute ages. I'm suddenly aware of the vast emptiness inside my stomach, and craving for meat.

"I second on that, Katherine."

"For the last time, IT'S KITTY."
