Chapter 5

Previously on Apnea...

"I heard that you witnessed the Succubus die by Jasper's hand. I ordered him to do so, so I would appreciate it if it wasn't released to the public, also...I would advise that you and Jasper be very careful because your relationship is forbidden on both sides ,"Lucifer warned

"What relationship?!"Markian growled.

"This conversation is done, Markian. Go enjoy your breakfast."

Markian fumed with anger, yet he couldn't retaliate against him.

"Markian, we need to talk."

Markian's pov

Just when I thought my day couldn't get any better... Jasper follows in right after Lucifer.

"Markian, we need to talk,"Jasper huffed.

"Talk about how you murdered that succubus in cold blood and licked her blood like it was mango juice or about how you're one of Lucifer's dogs?"

"You talk as if you knew her personally,"he paused and moved closer.

"I'm not...I'm just—trying to understand why you killed a fellow Demon so dispassionately,"I insisted.

Jasper sighed and slightly rubbed his temples, before looking me dead in the eye,"Do you know her sins? How many she has killed? How much pleasure she felt when causing destruction? You don't. Why? Because you only see her as an individual equal to you,"he said with a bit of bass.

"You're too naive; everything isn't sunshine and unicorns,"he finished. My breath hitched as I tried to arrange words to respond, but as I dug further and further... there wasn't much to go back and forth on. He is right.

"I-,"I tried to respond, but I had been interrupted by Jasper.

"Additionally, I would like to remind you that you take orders from God, so aren't you his dog as well? And if you think that God doesn't order the death of another then you're really living in a fairytale,"he scoffed.

"I-I apologize,"I replied. It was too short to be labeled an argument, but the more I thought about the situation...the more I realized that I was unconsciously being unfair to Jasper.

"Huh?"

"I'm sorry. I-I jumped to conclusions when I had no knowledge of the situation,"I expressed. When you can no longer make sense of your side in the argument, the best thing to do is apologize. I looked up and caught a glimpse of Jasper's flustered face before he covered it with his hand. "I'll accept your apology if...you go on a date with me after the conference,"he quickly says with a cough. My face glowed bright red with bashfulness.

"O-ok,"I stammered.

~~

Breakfast had come to a conclusion and we retreated back to our sleeping quarters before the actual conference had begun. A-a date?!

I wasn't new to the concept of dating, but the proposal was unexpected because of how hostile the previous conversation was. For someone who played wingman for multiple friends, I was inexperienced with going on dates myself. There are many handsome Angels back at home, but I lacked the courage to approach them. Courtship and love was a game that I guided others in, yet I wasn't an actual player.

I began to prepare for the meeting by putting on my Holy Gown, which was soft pink with white linen. A Holy Gown was a traditional garment that we wore to represent our rank in indispensable gatherings. Everyone possessed a"Holy" gown, even the Demons had their own garment that represents their ranks.

Jasper pov

I didn't expect the words "go on a date with me" to leave my mouth at that moment, nor did I imagine he would be in the affirmative.

Markian wasn't the type I usually went for, setting aside that he is the son of an Archangel, he was naive and his hands weren't tainted yet. His innocence intrigued me; I wanted to open his eyes to the ugly parts of our existence. I want to mess him up.

Regardless of the good news surrounding my newfound attentiveness towards Markian, I had to put on my traditional garment for the first part of the conference.

Bang~ Bang~ Bang~

"Jas~ I need help with my garments!"Raven yelled from outside of the door. I opened my door expecting to only see Raven, but I found Kane also trying to squeeze his way in. Why couldn't Kane help her? Actually, why do they have to constantly be in my room?

"Not you, Kane!"I blocked the entryway.

"I need help putting my garments on as well,"he said with a phoney confused look. He is gonna try to get into my head.

"Did you make up with Markian?"Kane asked.

"Yes..."I answered.

"You asked him on a date? That's a bit risky,"Raven exclaimed. What the fuck?

"Get the fuck out!"I said automatically.

"Calm down, I didn't mean to read your thoughts, your thoughts were simply too—loud,"Raven huffed.

"Yeah,yeah."

We continued to prepare ourselves, stopping in between to help with buttoning and tying. I wore a layered, velvet green suit that has been passed down generation to generation. Despite its old age, the garment still contained a fresh look as if it were sown the day before.

Raven's traditional wear was a floor length ashen gown with high slits and a mini skirt to go underneath. The dress possessed a deep neckline and shoulder straps with gold accents. Lastly, it had a gold waist cincher with ashen horses. Kane's garments matched Raven's with an ashen color blazer and horses on the gold shoulder part, however he didn't wear a shirt under the blazer. Show off.

We exited my sleeping quarters to meet Markian walking down the hall. Markian's appearance was enticing, even though I wasn't a fan of the Angels traditional robes.

"Markian~ how are you?"Raven rushes past me. Here she goes.

"Hey, Raven! I'm good,"he responded.

I wasn't able to perceive the rest of their conversation, but I let it go.

As we walked together to the conference room, we were stopped by JT. JT was the son of the Horseman of War and was my best friend from the womb. He was fun to talk to and hang out with, however he had a problem of stirring up confrontations and brawls. I couldn't blame him, nor force him to stop because it was the way he was raised. That would basically mean I'm telling him to not be himself or not be the next War. His family were filled with forceful, blunt and short tempered instigators, yet they all got along because of those traits. Those traits might've sounded unappealing, but they also are loyal, compassionate and strong-willed.

"Hey guys,"JT said slowly while eyeing Markian.

"Is this a friend of yours, Jasper?"he asked. JT had a mysterious glint in his eyes that didn't go unnoticed by me. Despite the question being directed towards me, JT's eyes never left Markian's face.

"Yes, he is...problem?"I bit back.

"Nice to meet you...any friend of Jasper is a friend of mine," he said while shaking his hand. At that same moment, his eyes shone red. If it weren't for Raven's advanced sensory ability, we wouldn't have caught JT using his prowess on Markian.

"That's no way to treat a friend,"Raven snarled, clenching JT's wrist in a bone crushing hold.

"I was just playing with him,"JT cackled, yanking his wrist from Raven's hold. He slid beside me and clung onto my arm.

"Who are you?"Markian spoke up with agitation.

"Your worst nightmare..."
