Three weeks have passed since I fought with Adam. The worst part is that everyday since that day I’ve had a heavy feeling in my heart. My eyes did not want open to the sunrays that hit my face. It was too bright. Let me sleep forever, I thought. I felt my bedroom door open, with smell of coffee in the air.

“Rena, wake up. You have to get to work, and I can’t believe I’m up before you.” Omar demanded. I’ve been doing that a lot lately…sleeping. I got up in my bed, Omar handed me a cup of coffee. I took it into my hands and took a sip. I felt the crisp winter air as Omar walked out into my balcony. I grab my gigantic sweater and walk out with him.

“I know you haven’t been yourself lately, but can you please tell me what happened?” he asked. I haven’t talked about that night.

“Omar, don’t ever fall in love…okay? It’s just load of bullshit.” I said. Omar laughed and took a sip of his coffee, as I took in the sunlight

“Trust me I’m nowhere near in love. Anyways, if you want breakfast, I got some fruit and yogurt for you outside. Go get ready, apparently you have tons of appointments today. Carol, your secretary called the home phone last night because you weren’t answering and told me.” He informed me. Oh, yeah I was watching a couple episodes of Scrubs again.

“Thanks Omar, I’m sorry I’ve been a piece of shit of sister lately.” I said while walking back in. I grabbed a professional dress with a pair of tights and pair of black heels

“Don’t worry about it, I think it’s our crappy childhood that screwed us up.” He said while chuckling. I start kick Omar out of my room, so I can get ready quickly. But first, I quickly do my wudu (cleansing of my body before I pray) and take out a prayer mat. I grab my prayer scarf. It was 8 A.M. perfect time for Fajr. I prayed and I prayed for my family’s, and friends’ wellbeing. I prayed to Allah to guide me today.

As I got ready, I mentally prepared myself today. Today was my tenth day at work, but it would be the first day I would handle clients alone. I couldn’t help but feel nervous; my father would no longer watch my every move.

I grabbed my workbag and a plastic box filled with cut up fruits, as breakfast. Omar was in the process of getting ready for work. I yelled a goodbye and walked out. I sighed as I unlocked my door and couldn’t help but think of three weeks ago. I sat down and plugged in my music. I did not let myself think about anyone that is not important to my goal. I let my mind drift into the song which was “Home and Consonance” by Tropics.  It took over mind.

I keep driving until I see the very the company sign, that read as “Northeast Inc.”. I quickly find parking on my reserved spot, which read as President. That’s when it really hit me. I was finally getting what I wanted; I was finally running a company. The confidence boosted me as I walked into the office with a straighter posture. The front desk greeted me with many hellos, and then Carol comes up to me with a lot of papers. Carol was a woman in mid-forties, who looked like she was in her thirties.  Carol worked for my father and was actually good friend of our family. She actually yelled at my dad with her British accent whenever he would get obsessed with his work.

“Those better not be for me.” I said with a smile.

“Ah, the very wit I love. Okay darling, I have the all your appointments lined up. First appointment is Singer Investments. Next is Almanac and I’ll tell you the rest afterwards. Singer Investments already has a representative upstairs. I already put your files on to your computer, just how you like it. Anything else?” She offered.

“Thank you Carol! Um, I haven’t had my daily dose of coffee, could you tell someone to get me Crème Brulee Latte.  And it’s no rush.” I said.
