Two weeks went by since Charlie left, but she had still not heard anything. She tried asking David about it, but every time she mentioned Charlie he would get defensive and just say "no". David also continued to act strangely around her, always keeping an eye on what she was doing and refusing to let her out of his sight when he was around.

Since the incident in the bathroom, she felt like he was expecting her to do something dangerous at any second, and as a result there was very little trust between them. On the positive side, he did seem to be around more often than before, but that came with its own price. Besides his short temper, every day he would ask about her shift and how she was feeling. She lied each time, saying her day was "fine" and she felt "better than yesterday". She avoided touching him, and anytime she dared to glance at him his face was expressionless.

Her shift was finished for the day and she was reading one of the books kept in the lounge, David sitting across from her. All of a sudden an alarm went off, and everyone began moving towards the hallway to see what was going on. Amid the mass confusion, faint screams could be heard down the hall, and people started moving in all directions in panic. Taylor began to move towards the hallway to see what was going on, but David grabbed her and pulled her back into the room, moving away from the door and huddling against the wall. She looked at him confused, and ready to tell him off.

Taylor: What the f-

David: You have to trust me.

For the first time in weeks, there was desperation in his voice. She was unsure what to make of it, but decided to follow him since she was convinced that he knew more than he was letting on. Suddenly the screaming from outside the room intensified, and people started running. Taylor heard the familiar growls, and it was as if her stomach had dropped, as if her brain and her body were separate entities. There were Chimeras inside the building. She could hear the screams of pain from their victims. David reached behind him and pulled out a gun. She stared at it, unsure of his intent. He waited a few more moments then looked over at her, grabbing her hand.

David: Don't let go.

He led her out of the room and, sticking close to the wall, they began moving in the opposite direction to the crowd. She could still see people running, some of the creatures following them and others still feasting on people they had already brought down. They could also hear guns being fired around the base, so it took a moment for Taylor to realize one of the shots had come from the gun in David's hand. A Chimera was lying in front of them, a bullet through its head, still twitching on the ground as David was aiming the gun at it. Confident it was no longer a threat, they began to run. The guards they passed seemed to be too preoccupied with everything going on to worry about them.

Eventually they made their way to a door, ran down a long hallway, and went through two more doors before Taylor realized they were in a garage. There were three vehicles inside, and David headed for the furthest one, pulling a pair of keys out of his pocket. He opened the passenger door, motioned for her to get in, and climbed into the driver's seat. He started the engine and drove towards the door, entering numbers onto a keypad on the visor. The door opened and they were outside. Before she knew it, they were travelling down a deserted road with nothing but field on either side of them, the base disappearing in the mirrors.

They did not talk to each other during the journey, but eventually David spotted a lone building and pulled in front of a large heavy door. He got out of the vehicle and opened the door, drove the car through, and got back out to re-secure the door. They were inside a dark room, somewhat resembling a barn except for the metal lining the walls. As David opened the door in the back of the vehicle, Taylor remained in her seat, unsure of what to do next. David walked around to her door and opened it.
