The day began for (Y/N) like any other. She woke up through the bright sunshine that shone through her window. Made a cup of hot coffee. And finally she got ready for work. Just as her hand touched the door handle, her cell phone started to ring. A short sigh left her lips. It was just before 8 and already someone wanted to talk to her. Her other hand was digging in her jacket pocket which was full of little things and the ringing cell phone. A unknown number. Whoever this is was not in her contacts. She took the call. "You won't be known." A male voice spoke without any greeting or introduction and before (Y/N) could say anything the stranger hung up. All that remained was the beeping of the line that was cut off. A joke. She thought to herself and put the small device back in her pocket and set off for work.
Afterwards, everything was the same. The parking spaces at the police building were partially occupied. The only exception that was different than usual is that her parking space, which she usually always claimed for herself, was occupied too. So without much ado she parked somewhere else and then walked towards the building. Once inside she wanted to go to her desk but before she could even enter the room with the office tables she was stopped by a blonde woman. " Excuse me. This area is for officers only." (Y/N) was confused and put on a slight smile. " With all due respect. I work here as a sergeant myself." The woman seemed not very convinced and asked for the name. "(Y/N) (L/N)." answered (Y/N) simply and waited for further reactions from the woman. " Never heard of you, do they have a police badge?" Further sceptically the blonde woman seemed to look at the (H/C) colored one. " Of course, look." ( Y/N) held out a wallet with the badge to show her. But even that did not convince the woman. " Look, I'm sure this is just a misunderstanding. I really do work here. You can ask Lieutenant Hank Anderson. We are partners." A little desperate she tried to look past the woman to see if Hank was there. It happened often enough that he was already sitting in a bar in the morning, sipping one drink after another. However, there seemed to be no trace of him in the office. " If he's there, I'll talk to him. But unfortunately I can't let you in until someone can confirm your identity."And so it came that (Y/N) did not get to reach her desk. Somewhat lost she went towards the exit until she saw a familiar face. The biggest idiot on the planet, Gavin Reed. The two have never had a good relationship with each other. But he could at least confirm her identity so that the blonde woman would finally be silent. "Hey, Reed." ( Y/N) ran towards him and grabbed his wrist. " I need your help." " Oh, sure. Hot stuff all for you." He looked at her with a grin. She almost choked when Gavin gave her such a cheap nickname. " What did you call me?! You know I have a normal name!" disgusted, she stared at him. " Care to share it with me, sweetheart?" That was weird. Not only did Gavin behave that way, but he didn't know her name. "( Y/N) (L/N). And for you Sergeant (L/N). And you tell that to the woman who doesn't believe I work here." Gavin laughed and kept looking at her grinning. " Honey, I can't believe you work here. This job is not for little girls." He laughed. Angrily she turned and left. That guy's a real pain in the ass. She finally left the building.
And she cursed Hank inside her head for not being there. So now she had the problem that she couldn't work for the time being and Gavin had completely destroyed her day. She picked up her cell phone one more time and dialed Hank's number. No one answered. Not even one of those monotonous mailboxes could be heard. So she left a brief message saying, "Call me." It took years before he would read it and so she decided to go looking for him. The first place she arrived was one of Hank's regular bars. She's been here a few times just to make sure her partner doesn't overdo it. As she looked around she noticed him on one of those cheap old bar stools at the edge of the bar. In front of him small glasses, piled up to a pyramid. " Hank, you got a minute?" She sat down beside him and grabbed his shoulder. Shortly after, her hand was knocked away like it was a piece of garbage. " Don't dare to touch me." ...he'd get mad at her. She pulled back her hand a little hurt from his words. He was never like that. Not even when he was drunk. " Who are you, anyway? Aren't you too young to be here?" Her stomach turned when even Hank didn't recognize her. The man she worked with for many years. " Don't you recognize me?" Her voice sounded fragile and she pulled herself together so that she did not start to cry. " Listen, kid, why don't you just leave me alone and fuck off?" He turned away from her and had the next glass brought to him. " O-Okay." She stood up hesitantly, walked a few steps away from him and turned around again briefly. What was the matter? She went home on foot as she could hardly drive with tears in her eyes. It started to rain too. Suddenly she noticed that someone was blocking her way. A black umbrella kept the raindrops from falling on both of them. And her eyes met that pair of the person standing in front of her. For a short time it was like the world stopped.
"I was looking for you, (Y/N)." Connor spoke.
"I'm sorry, but who are you again?" asked the woman whose name was apparently (Y/N).
