Vanessa was furious. She knew she and Shantay would never be as cool as they once were, but she never expected her former bestie to make her life a living hell. Every other day she bombarded Syberia's cell phone with some petty conversation that always hinged on her being poor. She ended each pity party with, "but I know God will make a way somehow." Things were finally starting to take their toll on Vanessa. It was time to confront Shantay. Enough was enough.
Vanessa's thoughts came to an abrupt pause as her cell phone jumped all over the counter. She checked her caller id. It was Brenda and Vanessa was glad to finally hear from her friend.
"What's up, Brenda? Girl we are waaaay past time to hang out." Vanessa said, greeting her true confidant and lifelong friend.
"I know right, but check this out. I have some great news. Check your text messages real quick. I just shot you something."
"What is it?" Vanessa asked.
"I'm not telling. You gotta take a look." Brenda responded playfully.
Brenda knew Vanessa had seen the ring when she heard Vanessa screaming and she quickly joined in her friend's jubilation.
"How many carats is that?" Vanessa asked. "How did he do it and why are you just telling me? When did this happen?" She continued, firing question after question.
"It is a 5-carat emerald-cut and yes it is flawless and colorless. Brenda added.
"You know I was gonna ask about clarity." Vanessa laughed. "So when did he propose?"
"At Shantay's party yesterday."
"That bitch had a party. She can barely feed herself and she's throwing a damn party. That is probably why she's been blowing up Syberia's phone so much lately talking about how broke and hungry she is. I've about had it with this hoe, Brenda. She is taking this too far. It's time I pay this bitch a visit."
"I hear ya." Brenda replied, understanding her friend's frustration. "I'm having a late lunch with Malcolm. We can head to her place after. Just swing by the office and pick me up. Oh, Vanessa, please leave the real gun and the stun gun at home. Don't get over there and go all Mafietta on the girl."
"Don't worry. I'll be cool. See ya at 3." Vanessa advised, hanging up the phone.

Dan, Malcolm's driver, drove to Shantay's house as Brenda and Vanessa chatted it up in the back of the Chevrolet Suburban.
"You betta call that hoe and let her know we're coming. Ain't no telling what she up in there doing." Vanessa said.
"You're probably right," Brenda replied, grabbing her phone from her purse.
"Hey, Girl," Brenda said, greeting Shantay. "I'm heading by to check on you before your surgery tomorrow and I have company."
"Sorry babe, but it will have to wait. I have to run to the doctor's office to take care of the bill and the paperwork for tomorrow, but we can get up later though if you want." Shantay replied.
"That's cool. Just hit me when you're done and we can do dinner or something." Brenda returned, ending the call.
"I bet you that bitch ain't even going to the doctor." Vanessa blurted.
"There you go with that bullshit again, Nessa. When are you gonna give that girl a break?" Brenda returned angrily. "I am so sick of this shit. It's always something with you two. Fix it or stop talking about it, Nessa."
"I tell you what Sis. If you are so sure about it – let's follow her." Vanessa dared.
"What? Why would we do that? The surgery is tomorrow. Her explanation makes perfect sense."
