Chapter Two: Summer Of 1987...
MAE WAS ASLEEP WHEN they pulled into the driveway of the new house. She jolted awake when the blue pitbull jumped onto her lap to put her front paws on the window to bark loud yips at the unfamiliar place. Rosey wagged her tail excitingly. Mae now wide awake and confused, giggled at the puppy and pulled her to her chest to look out the window. She saw the fading red paint of the small two story house and frowned.
It looks so different.
Mae grew up in a city her whole life and didn't like the look of the dusty new town she was expected to live in. The old town didn't give off a 'friendly neighborhood' vibe. It reminded her of The Outsiders. Not a very friendly small town.
Mae finally stepped out of the car with Rosey struggling to break free in her arms as she stared down the house. It had an eerie aurora. "Mae? Can you help bring the boxes in?" Her mother interrupted her thoughts and she set Rosey down to grab a box to bring in.

Five days later, Mae sat on a worn out rug with boxes scattered around her in her new room. She had The Outsiders in her hand. School in Derry had ended a week ago, so she had the whole summer ahead of her before being 'the new kid'. That she was not exited for. Mae set down her book and sighed. She thought that she'd better start unpacking and reorganizing her new living space.
The only things that were set up was her bed and bedsheets and her shelves. Mae went to work with putting her metal posters onto the walls. She hasn't left the house since she moved in. She was scared of the town and the other kids in it. What would they think of her?
Mae was snapped out of her thoughts when she heard yelling come from outside. Her parents were out looking for a job and her grandma was at church. Mae had come up with some bullshit excuse like she had to finish unpacking so that she didn't have to go with her. So Mae was home alone. She went to look out the window and saw four boys. Three were really big, the one in the middle was pinning a smaller boy to a fence by the collar of his shirt. She didn't get a good look at any of their appearances. She saw the one pinning the smaller boy punch him in the lips and she ran down the stairs to the front door. She stopped before opening the door.
What am I doing?
Mae thought to herself.
Their just picking on each other. It's probably nothing.
She slowly moved her hand away from the doorknob. "Get off of me! Help! HELP ME!" That's what Mae heard before she ran out of the house.
"What you gonna do, fucking fagot? Huh?!" The one pinning the bloodied up boy mocked. "I'm not gay Henry! I-I swear! Just ask your sister." The boy Mae now could see had glasses and a Hawaiian overshirt smirked before the one she now knew as Henry socked him in the jaw. "Don't trashmouth me, Tozier!"
